Instagram head Adam Mosseri has revealed a new possible feature in the platform. Engadget reported that multiple audience lists for different stories are currently being tested to ensure a more controlled way of posting stories.
Mosseri noted that many are already using the app's Close Friends feature for Story audiences, which allows users to add certain friends to a list and to share Stories with that group of people only.
However, Mosseri said Instagram users may be able to share Stories to multiple audience lists in the future as he shared his excitement for this experimental feature despite it being in the testing stage.
"This allows you to share stories to smaller groups and gives you more control over who can see your stories," Mosseri said. "As someone who uses Close Friends often, I'm pretty excited about being able to create additional lists for the people in my life."
A similar reaction was reportedly observed from Instagram users based on a poll that showed an overwhelmingly positive response. Neowin reported on how to use the feature, which can create separate groups for siblings, for instance, or acquaintances who also love food.
Mosseri, who is excited about being able to create multiple lists in the platform, noted that it was still an experimental feature, and there was no guarantee that it would be released more widely.
Instagram's Many New Features
Instagram's new audience list feature is set to join the many updates the app has received. In early September, Instagram also began testing a location tag in notes, wherein a select group of users were reportedly given access to add location tags in their note bubbles.
Last August, Meta also announced several additions to Instagram, notably being able to add music to photo carousels, invite friends to "collaborate" in creating posts and reels, and lastly, the "Add Yours" sticker.
Tech Times recently reported that Meta plans to create an ad-free version of the platform through a paid subscription in response to EU's regulation policies when a €1.2 billion fine reportedly hit Meta due to the "handling of EU's citizen' data."
Instagram's Threads Update
As for Instagram's latest app, "Threads," launched early this year, it became the "fastest growing app in history" by accumulating 100 million users in five days. But it eventually dropped in engagement rates by 70%, according to Forbes.
Forbes reported that despite the recent drop, there was still hope for the application, with the key being the content itself, and it must also differentiate itself from X.
The Information also reported that Instagram aims to hold meetings with various creators to collaborate and learn possible ways to revitalize the platform. The platform is set to attract new creators while also retaining existing ones.
Constant updates are regularly being made for Threads to enhance "user engagement and functionality," according to Search Engine Journal. A noteworthy addition to Instagram and Threads earlier this week was the Federal Reserve, The Hill reported.
The federal agency said it created accounts on the two social media platforms owned by Meta to increase "the accessibility and availability of Board news and educational content."
