Artifact, a platform co-founded by Instagram's creators, is rolling out a new feature that allows users to create posts, shifting from its previous role as a news and link aggregator. Mike Krieger, the co-founder and CTO of Artifact, unveiled this update at the recent Code Conference 2023.
"Starting today, you'll be able to post your own content directly on Artifact without needing to include a link. Posts builds on the recent launch of Links, and allows anyone to share thoughts, reviews, ideas or anything they find useful into the feed of content from the community," the company said in a blog post.
Artifact Without Needing an Accompanying Link
This newly introduced capability empowers users to publish their own content directly on Artifact without needing an accompanying link. According to the company's blog post, this feature expansion builds upon the recent introduction of 'Links,' which enables users to share noteworthy URLs, contributing to personalized content discovery.
The blog post stated, "Posts builds on the recent launch of Links, and allows anyone to share thoughts, reviews, ideas or anything they find useful into the feed of content from the community. Posts, along with Links, expand what's possible to discover, share, and create on Artifact."
To utilize this feature, users can initiate the process by selecting the "+" icon located at the top right corner of the Links tab. It opens the option to share either a "Post" or a "Link."
Users can include images, titles, and text in their posts, spanning a wide range of content. Posts will be seamlessly integrated into the community's visual content feed, reaching followers and those with similar reading interests on Artifact. Each post will also have its own unique URL, enhancing shareability.
Artifact's Features
Introduced in April this year, Artifact launched various new features, such as user profiles, reputation scores, comment upvoting and downvoting, and read notifications from contacts. These additions aim to foster engagement within the app, facilitating discussions and content sharing among users.
User profiles enable individuals to establish a public identity on the platform, complete with a photo, bio, and reputation score determined by their activity within the app.
The reputation score is influenced by interactions with a user's content, including comments and shared articles. Similar to platforms like Reddit, users can upvote or downvote comments, which in turn affects their reputation score.
Furthermore, read notifications have been incorporated, allowing users to track when their contacts have viewed an article they have shared. This feature provides an additional layer of engagement and interaction among users on the platform.
