In a move set to redefine the European grocery delivery landscape, Uber Eats has teamed up with Turkish rapid grocery delivery giant Getir.

TechCrunch tells us that this partnership, officially launched in the UK and poised to spread across Europe, promises Uber Eats users access to a vast selection of over 2,000 everyday essentials, all delivered within minutes.

The Uber Eats-Getir Power Duo

This exciting collaboration capitalizes on Getir's established network of dark stores, allowing Uber Eats to bring users a seamless and ultrafast grocery shopping experience.

The partnership is a significant milestone for both companies, with Uber Eats looking to expand its grocery offerings and Getir aiming to tap into a broader user base through the Uber platform.

Eve Henrikson, the Regional General Manager at Uber Delivery EMEA, expressed her enthusiasm: "We want to ensure customers can use Uber Eats to get almost anything delivered in a matter of minutes, at the touch of a button."

Turancan Salur, Getir's Regional General Manager, echoed this sentiment: "This partnership between two strong and well-known international brands brings great advantages to Uber Eats customers, who now have the option to choose from Getir's wide range of grocery and convenience products."

A Boost for Uber Eats and Getir

For Uber Eats, this collaboration comes when demand for grocery delivery surges.

TechCrunch reports that orders in New Verticals exceeded $5 billion in Gross Bookings in Q1, marking a nearly 35% year-on-year increase. This strategic partnership expands Uber Eats' ability to cater to European tastes and needs.

On the other hand, Getir, once valued at nearly $12 billion, has been challenging. The company reduced its global workforce by 14% and exited some European markets due to cost and funding issues.

However, acquiring German rival Gorillas and partnering with Uber Eats signal a strong commitment to growth and market presence.

Logistics and Fulfillment

One unique aspect of this partnership is the logistics behind it.

Orders placed through the Uber Eats app will be fulfilled by Getir couriers, ensuring speedy deliveries "within minutes."

This approach leverages Getir's expertise in ultrafast grocery delivery to provide top-notch service to Uber Eats customers.

Additionally, as part of the partnership, Uber Eats users will soon have the option to shop from Gorillas stores, further expanding their choices and convenience.

Challenges and Restructuring for Getir

Getir's recent announcement of a global restructuring initiative involving the reduction of 2,500 jobs across five countries highlights the challenges it has faced.

Despite exiting markets like Italy, Spain, and Portugal, the company remains committed to its core markets, including Turkey, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States.

"We will restructure the global organization to significantly increase operational efficiency," Getir stated in a press release, emphasizing its determination to lead the industry it pioneered eight years ago.
