Jaguar Is the Latest Automaker to Adopt Tesla NACS Charging Port for Its Future EVs

Jaguar has inked a deal with Tesla to get access to the Supercharger network.

Tesla's NACS is seeing a new joiner to its revolution to standardize electric vehicle (EV) charging, with Jaguar inking a contract to adopt this technology from the company.

Jaguar is looking to apply these changes come 2025, with the company's EVs all adhering to Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging connector system for a universal connection in its various locations.

It means that Jaguar secures a chance to use Tesla's Superchargers, one of the largest EV charging networks in the world, with fast charging for all.

Jaguar Joining the Tesla NACS Adoption, Coming 2025

According to Jaguar's recent press release, the company signed an agreement with Tesla to adopt the NACS charging connector and charge port to its electric vehicles. Jaguar also said it would be first seen by 2025, with its next-generation luxury electric cars already sporting the NACS.

"Tesla has created a charging network across the globe that delivers this, and we are delighted to be working with them to provide access for Jaguar clients. This agreement will enable Jaguar drivers with NACS-equipped vehicles in the USA, Canada, and Mexico to use Superchargers without an adapter," said Mark Camilleri, Director of Electrification Services at Jaguar Land Rover.

Supercharger Access, Goodbye CCS

The announcement also confirmed Jaguar's access to the more than 12,000 Supercharger locations across the Americas, with its cars no longer needing adapters.

The NACS adoption means that Jaguar EVs are also leaving behind the Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors it currently has. According to Ars Technica, its new electrification plan would delay new EVs until 2025, with the goal of only selling EVs by 2030.

Jaguar EVs and NACS

Ford was the first to announce its adoption of the Tesla NACS chargers, and this opened the way for other companies to join the revolution in standardizing EV chargers.

Ford is part of "The Big Three" in the US automotive industry that plans to spend billions on EVs to catch up to Tesla. General Motors, also a member of "The Big Three," said the NACS would be available on GM cars by 2025.

Jaguar's massive transition to electric vehicles shows its commitment to the cause, with the company converting its Halewood Plant to produce its EVs and support the company's transition.

It is also known that Jaguar is no stranger to dealing with Tesla. The company previously revealed its ECD Automotive design for the E-Type sports cars uses Tesla drivetrains.

The growing list of companies joining this NACS revolution suggests that the future will see its universality. Jaguar's decision to be part of Tesla's NACS standard and soon access to Supercharger stations seems like a bidding goodbye to CCS.

According to Jaguar, its in-house battery and power electronics have already been designed to optimize charging rates on Tesla's v3 and v4 charger hardware.
