Due to many scams regarding Apple products, the company has worked on security features that would help reduce the amount of fraud around its new product, the iPhone 15. This comes as the company has developed a box with authenticity security features to protect its users.
The New iPhone 15 Comes with a Security Mechanism Only Detectable with a UV Light
According to the story by 9to5Mac, it was revealed that the new iPhone 15 comes with a new security mechanism that can only be detected with a UV light in order for users to prove its authenticity. This helps prove that the device is indeed legitimate and ensures people won't be scammed into buying fake iPhones.
Specifically, this would help prevent people from getting scammed when buying an iPhone from what was described as an "unknown store." A video uploaded by Majin Bu on X shows how the scan works and how it was designed to protect users from getting scammed.
iPhone 15 Boxes Come with Specific Labels and QR Codes Only Viewable Through UV Light
As seen in the video, the iPhone 15 boxes come with very specific labels and QR codes that users can only spot if they use a UV light. The holograms reportedly help users and even Apple to determine which boxes are sealed or genuine.
Despite this being a small detail, this could potentially at least limit the amount of scams surrounding the new iPhone. It was noted that some sellers repackage devices that are either used or refurbished and present them as brand new.
Dangers of Sellers Using Fake Boxes to Sell Used or Refurbished as Brand New Devices
These sellers do so with fake boxes that are basically replicas of the original ones designed by Apple. The devices are then sold as brand-new or genuine; according to the article, Apple hasn't mentioned this.
The article highlights that Apple hasn't mentioned this because if the word got out, it would be easier for scammers to replicate the holograms. Eventually, this is something that could be expected.

Users can Check the Serial Number of the Box to See if It Matches the Device's Serial Number as Well
However, with the recent boxes, users can still use UV light technology to ensure they get a new iPhone. This is done by users checking the serial number on the box, and after purchasing, users can also open the device in front of the seller to see the Settings app.
For the iPhone 15 to be authentic, the serial number and IMEI on the Settings app should match the ones listed on the iPhone boxes. Users can also directly check the serial number on the box through Apple's check coverage page.
Should the serial numbers match the box and inside the device, this could be a sign that the device is indeed authentic.
