Nikon has unveiled its new full-frame mirrorless camera, Z f, that combines a classic design with cutting-edge technology drawn from the company's highly regarded Z 8 and flagship Z 9 models. The Z f not only boasts a striking aesthetic but also delivers high-caliber performance powered by the EXPEED 7 processing engine.
According to the company, this facilitates an advanced AF system, remarkable speed, and exceptional low-light capabilities. The increased processing power introduces notable features like pixel-shift shooting, the most sophisticated in-body stabilization in the Z series, and a dedicated monochrome mode.
Jay Vannatter, Executive Vice President at Nikon Inc., remarked: "It's exciting to see the leaps in innovation that propelled the Z 9 trickling down, making the latest technology and features more accessible than ever before inside the Z f, a camera which is a beautiful marriage of form and function."
"The Z f is more than a means to simply capturing an image; using the camera is an experience unto itself, one which not only sparks creativity but also elevates the user's intent with its advanced performance and feature set," Vannatter added.
All About Nikon's New Camera
The camera is equipped with the EXPEED 7 image-processing engine, which enhances response time, burst speed, and AF performance while introducing new features, creating a distinctive category within the Z series.
According to Nikon, its 24.5-megapixel full-frame BSI CMOS sensor captures vivid colors and exceptional detail, even in challenging lighting conditions.
The AF system is a standout feature, employing 3-D Tracking and subject detection developed with Deep Learning technology. It identifies and locks onto nine different types of subjects, ranging from people and animals to vehicles and transportation modes.
Additionally, it can detect faces as small as approximately 3% of the frame's longest side. With 299 AF points in Auto Area AF, the Z f offers extensive coverage, making subject tracking precise, even near the viewfinder's edges.
The Z f boasts 5-axis in-camera vibration reduction (VR) image stabilization, equivalent to an 8.0-stop increase in shutter speed, surpassing other Nikon Z series models.
It also introduces focus-point VR, minimizing blurring at the focus point. The camera can achieve high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 14 or 30 frames per second with High-Speed Frame Capture+.
Additionally, it incorporates a Pre-Release function to start recording before the shutter is fully pressed. The BSI sensor and enhanced processing power significantly improve low-light performance, expanding the standard ISO range.
