Sony has delivered another special feature for the PlayStation 5, and this expands more on its Remote Play feature, now offering a way to stream on various devices including Google's Chromecast and Android TVs. This means that users can take their PlayStation gaming to any room or place, as long as the screen has Chromecast or a compatible Android TV with the required version.
Remote Play has enabled gamers to move from different locations without the need to bring the console with them, offering better accessibility for the PS5.
Sony PS5 Update Adds Remote Play for Chromecast, Android TVs
A new post from the PlayStation Blog details the latest update, with its new helpful feature expanding PS5's Remote Play to more devices including compatible Chromecast and Android TVs. According to PlayStation, the PS Remote Play for the PS5 and PS4 will now see support to stream to Android TV devices, particularly those running the Android TV OS 12.
There are two verified devices available to experience the stream, including the Chromecast with Google TV (4K model) and the Sony BRAVIA XR A95L models only.
For now, there are a limited number of compatible and eligible devices for this experience, and it can be accessed by downloading the PS Remote Play app directly on the Android device.
Will the New Remote Play be Smooth for Gaming?
Sony did give users several pointers to review on what to expect for the PS Remote Play on Android TVs, and first, it requires broadband internet WiFi with at least 5Mbps speeds.
Next, compatible experiences would only center on games that use the DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense, and DualSense Edge.
Lastly, the performance will vary per device, and even if the television runs Android TV OS 12, there may be input lag and other forms of issues. Sony also recommends setting the TV to its low-latency game mode.
PlayStation's Remote Play
PlayStation's Remote Play is an iconic way to experience gaming on a different device, and not necessarily on HDMI-connected devices only like monitors or televisions. This was first introduced in the PlayStation 4 and what it delivered is an experience that allows gamers to get more from the console, giving it a more portable experience, even for Windows or Mac.
Sony's recent hardware release, the PlayStation Portal, is a device that is meant for Remote Play only, and the company put a massive emphasis on this despite many thinking it would be a standalone handheld. It means that gamers need to have a PlayStation 5, with only the games that they have bought or played for the console accessible on the portable gaming handheld.
The update brought a lot of features for gamers to enjoy and it is not only the Remote Play that sees an improvement here for all their PS5 console gaming needs. PS5's expansion of Remote Play is truly one of the most iconic features here, and it aims to allow more gamers to bring their experiences elsewhere, now compatible with Chromecast and Android TVs.
