PlayStation 5 console's smaller version is dropping sooner as several sources claimed.
Sony has not yet revealed official information about the PS5 Slim yet some rumors already pointed out some potential specs for this gaming machine.
Since it is smaller than the base PS5 model, is it also expected to be cheaper? Let's find out in this article.
Will the PS5 Slim Be Better than the Standard PlayStation 5?
Sony's usual pattern of releasing a mid-gen refresher for its console is a known tradition in the industry. Tons of leakers have guessed what's coming next, but most of them predicted that it's the PS5 Slim.
When you take a look at the previous mid-cycle refreshes, you will see that they somehow bring improved functionality to the gaming console.
For PS4 Slim, PS3 Slim, and PS2 Slim, the common design is touted to be "more slim-bodied" for a console, according to Sportskeeda. This will help the gamers save space for other games while enjoying an optimal gaming performance at once.
The gaming outlet believes that the PS5 Slim won't be getting a "massive upgrade," but still the leaks could bear an interesting lead as to how it will perform.
PS5 Slim Will Just Be Slightly Faster than Base Console
While everyone expects to see PS5 Slim featuring an almost similar set of specs to the 2020 console, the difference will boil down to power efficiency and a smaller case.
The PS5 is undoubtedly a 4K gaming beast. Some insiders believe that PS5 Slim won't offer that much of an upgrade from a POV of refreshed design.
Some reports claim that the PS5 Slim will be slightly faster than the PlayStation 5. This is good news but it won't offer the biggest improvement we would likely see.
PS5 Slim's Price and Release Date
As said earlier, it will be slimmer than the PS5. According to TechRadar, its price might reach $499.99 on launch.
There's another story that says that it will be $100 cheaper than the original console. If this is true, then Sony is just following the path of the PS4.
The higher price tag might be applicable to the rumored PS5 Pro, in case the latter is indeed in Sony's books.
Up to this day, there's no indication that we are getting a PS5 Slim Digital Edition, but it's good to know that it could have TSMC 5nm chips for a performance boost.
The difference between the PS5 Slim and PS5 is minimal, but the PS5 Pro will be a different story. RedGamingTech says that it can surpass PlayStation 5 with a 123.6% improvement in performance. Double computing power is something we should not underestimate.
In July, a new PS console was rumored to launch in September yet it's not clear if this was a PS5 Slim or the Pro version.
If this console doesn't arrive this year, we expect to see it coming by early 2024.
