'Mario Kart Tour' Is On its Last Lap: Nintendo Ends Support

Gamers of "Mario Kart Tour" have shared on Reddit an in-game message from Nintendo that confirmed the sad news that the famed mobile karting game is nearing its end.

After releasing its two latest tours, Nintendo said the company would stop creating new content or only consist of previously added content for the famed mobile title. On September 20, Nintendo will release new content for the "Mario Kart Tour" as a part of its Anniversary Tour.

Then, a Battle Tour would follow on October 4 before its final event on October 18, which is the Halloween Tour. Following the Battle Tour's launch on October 4, Nintendo said no more new courses, karts, or gliders would appear.

"From 04/10/2023 (Wed) on, tours will consist of content from tours that have appeared before... No new courses, drivers, karts, or gliders will be added following the Battle Tour starting 04/10/2023," Nintendo said. "We hope you continue to enjoy playing Mario Kart Tour."

What Will Happen to 'Mario Kart Tour' on Mobile?

The tours after October 4 would only feature those that have appeared before in the game. However, Nintendo did not explain why.

The game can still be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, which means it would still be available but no longer updating or offering new content.

Nintendo's Mario Kart and its Legacy

In 2019, Nintendo offered a unique experience to the world by launching the "Mario Kart Tour," a game initially offered via a beta experience that gathered a massive fanbase.

After only a week, Nintendo saw massive success for the karting mobile game, with as much as 90 million downloads globally, setting a company record for a mobile experience.

The "Mario Kart Tour" is a vertical-oriented game that uses finger-direction slides to steer the kart and tap to fire the items they received from the mystery box to beat other players.

This game offered a unique experience by providing massive free-to-play access and a connected online multiplayer setup connecting opponents globally.

Mario Kart is a beloved, long-running franchise from Nintendo, but it remained with the Wii U's last release of "Mario Kart 8," only to be re-released to the Switch as "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe."

"Mario Kart Tour" is still Nintendo's latest release on the kart racing game franchise. It was released in 2019 but is set to cross the finish line next month.
