Memory has become more affordable over the years as terabytes of data now become more accessible to more people. However, this also comes as the requirements of programs have also grown in requirements.
Different AAA Games can Require Hundreds of GB of Data, Increasing the Need for More Memory
Certain AAA games nowadays can require hundreds of gigabytes, making it harder for regular users to continue playing these high-class titles without upgrading their memory. The good thing is that memory has also become more affordable not just for HDDs but also for SSDs.
According to the story by Tom's Hardware, the Samsung 2TB 980 Pro SSD is selling for just $99. This means that high-speed memory is selling at just $0.50 per gigabyte, which would've cost a fortune back then.
Samsung 980 Pro SSD 2TB Edition Spotted Selling at a Massive Discount from Its Original $189 Price
It was noted that the memory was selling for this discounted price on B&H Photo and that the version selling at a discount comes with its own heatsink. As for its old price, the Samsung 980 Pro SSD 2TB edition was once selling for $189.
This comes as the PCIe 4.0 was reportedly capable of reaching speeds up to 7000/5100 Mbps while also using the V-NAND TLC memory. As seen on its listing, the memory comes with different options starting at 250GB but capping at 2TB.
The Memory Comes with a 5-Year Warranty but It Automatically Becomes Void When Users Reach 600 TBW
It was noted that all these drivers come with an M.2 2280 form factor and come with a connection with a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. It was also highlighted that the driver can come with an optional 256-bit AES encryption should users want to enable it for additional security.
The memory is also protected by a 5-year warranty from the manufacturer, meaning users will be able to enjoy the memory with a guarantee for up to five years. However, it was noted that the warranty would be void should users reach 600 TBW on the driver.
The SSD is Designed to be Used on the PlayStation 5 but Isn't Compatible with Other Consoles
Fans can also check the SSD on Samsung's official website, which highlights how it's also compatible with PlayStation 5. However, the SSD isn't designed to work on any other types of gaming consoles.
On the official Samsung website, the memory stick was still selling at $144.99 from its original price of $179.99. This was reportedly a $35 discount from its original price which isn't as much as the discount on B&H Photo.
Another difference when it comes to the memory stick being sold on the official Samsung website is that it doesn't come with a heatsink and highlights how the heatsink is sold separately. Because of this, buyers would get more value when they decide to purchase the SSD from B&H Photo compared to the official website.
