iPhone 15 is expected to make huge waves this year, especially with the imminent transition from Lightning port to USB-C.
According to SellCell's recent survey, this anticipated shift might be a catalyst for a significant number of Android users to switch to iPhones.
iPhone Owners Have a Strong Desire to Stick With Apple
In a survey involving more than 1,000 iPhone and Android owners in the US, SellCell discovered that Apple's USB-C charging port adoption could likely affect the perception of customers.
63% of the existing iPhone users said that the major change could urge other people to switch to Apple's ecosystem.
For 37% of iPhone owners, there's a need to upgrade their device so they can use the same charging port as other Apple products including iPads and Macs. 66% of iPhone users conclude that upgrading to iPhone 15 is mandatory.
Android Users Tempted by USB-C
A report by MacRumors says that 44% of the current Android phone owners said that they could switch to iPhone 15 if Apple added a USB-C port.
35% of the respondents within the same group said that they were motivated by the idea of cross-device charger compatibility. This suggests that people love the versatility of this new charging solution.
66% of Android users think that it's good to retain a partnership with the brand ahead of iPhone 15's launch while 34% admitted that they were open to the idea of upgrading to iPhone 15.
When is the iPhone 15 Arriving?
An August report by Tech Times suggests that Apple was preparing to introduce the new iPhone 15 series this month.
According to the regulatory filing that the Cupertino giant submitted, the upcoming smartphone lineup is not the only one that will debut in September.
Apart from the most awaited iPhone 15 models, Apple is expected to bring a revamped AirPods Pro with a USB-C charging case.
That's not all since it's also tipped that the Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Series 9 will be unveiled at the "Wonderlust" event on Sep. 12.
It's not surprising that the company has finally adopted the USB-C port given that it stuck with the Lightning port for more than a decade.
Since September 2012, Apple has been using the same charging port as the iPhone 5. It was gradually adopted by the iPads and Macs.
The decision of Apple to use USB-C on all of its devices is in line with Europe's regulations. According to the ruling body, all devices such as laptops and smartphones should use a universal charging standard as stated under the Common Charger Law.
Regarding this, the official USB-C legislation is scheduled to take effect on December 28, 2024. This will be enforced not only on Apple gadgets but also on the products manufactured by other tech giants.
