It's indeed annoying to encounter spam text messages that keep on flooding your inbox. Well, Verizon has finally the solution you need to get rid of them.
The wireless network operator says that there's a new way to block them by simply texting a three-letter word to a corresponding number.
Verizon's Way to Eliminate Email-to-Text Spam Messages
In the latest announcement by Verizon on Tuesday, Aug. 29, the company said that customers can text "OFF" right away and send it to 4040 to start blocking unwanted text messages.
Verizon accounts that over 80% of email-to-text messages are considered spam. This newfound way can instantly stop all the incoming text messages you don't want to receive.
For the past years, the United States has been battling with spam texts and robocall scams.
When the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) noted that unwanted calls are on the rise, several users were warned that companies and individuals lose a lot of resources from merely encountering them.
From 2019, the number of spam texts will be recorded at 5,700. It exponentially increased to 14,000 in the following year, before skyrocketing to 15,300 in 2021.
Since mobile phones are at risk of getting taken advantage of by an autodialer, the FCC finally imposed a ban for it.
The regulatory body also devised its policies and improved its mitigation measures to combat scam texting and robocalls.
At that time, the FCC said that mobile service providers like Verizon should block "highly illegal" robo texts to keep the customers safe from any security risks.
If you think that this is not for you, Verizon says that you can revert right away. Just type "ON" and send it to 4040, per CNBC.
