OLED vs QD-OLED Explained: Here's What the Upgrade Does for Your Screens

Find out more about the OLED vs QD-OLED screens.

When it comes to the latest TV technology, a lot of people still think that the latest tech available comes in the form of OLED screens. While these are advanced technologies, a new type of screen has recently come out that's expected to bring better capabilities to the screens.

Introduction of QD-OLED Tech Came in 2022 with the Samsung S95B TV Screen Model

According to the story by Tech Radar, OLED screens are often known for their deep blacks, great color, and extremely good contrast. While OLED seems to have everything, it somehow still lacks brightness and often leaves glares when used in a shiny bright room.

This comes as Samsung, in 2022, came out with the S95B, which was the first official screen to ever pack the QD-OLED tech. This has caused a disruption in the TV market as more people are trying to embark on the latest technology.

QD-OLED Screen Launched with 100 Nits Higher than Most OLED Screens

The QD-OLED screen was designed to help address the OLED brightness issue that people experience with OLED devices. The article noted that the QD-OLED was able to solve exactly that as they found out when trying to review the screen.

When it comes to brightness output, the QD-OLED screens on Standard mode were capable of reaching 1060 nits. This was 100 nits higher compared to the Standard mode of the LG G2, which was capable of 960 nits brightness output.

Sony A95K Launched to Combat the Samsung QD-OLED Screen but Didn't Perform as Well in Terms of Brightness

After the launch of its S95B, Sony released its Sony A95K but it didn't really hit the Samsung QD-OLED screen's brightness level. Despite that, it reportedly had what was described as "one of the best pictures" that Tech Radar notes they have ever seen on a TV.

With regards to the QD-OLED screen, according to Sam Mobile, Samsung was only able to sell 350,000 units despite aiming to sell 600,000 units. As seen on the official Samsung website, the 55-inch S95B sells for a whopping $2,199 but as of press time is selling at a $100 discount for a limited time.

Sony A95K Costs $2,999 which is Still Way Higher than the Samsung S95B TV

The Sony A95K, on the other hand, was selling at a higher price of $2,999 when it launched for the same 55-inch model. The LG G2, on the other hand, which was released in March 2022, costs buyers $2,199 for the same 55-inch screen.

LG G2 also has an 83-inch screen which reportedly costs $6,499, which as seen on the website has already dropped by $1,500 but is still selling for a significant $4,999. This TV is still using the OLED technology and not the newer QD-OLED screens.

So far, Samsung has also debuted two other screens, the S9DC as well as the S95C which come with a peak brightness of 1,000 and 1,400 nits.
