Valve's first-person shooter "Half-Life 2" will finally receive the makeover it deserves. According to Nvidia, the group of modders will make it "ray-traced."
'Half-Life 2' is Getting a Remake Plus Ray-Tracing Feature
Ahead of Gamescom 2023, hardware maker Nvidia has announced that "Half-Life 2" will be developed with ray-tracing thanks to the RTX Remix platform.
The 2004 shooter game easily won the hearts of fans who missed playing it due to nostalgia. Back then, it was all about low-quality visuals and intense frame drops, but now the modders step up to beautify the game.
According to Gamerant, the latest version of RTX Remix was also used for the development of "Portal with RTX and Portal: Prelude."
The remastered version of "Half-Life 2" will be adding new features including RTX IO, Reflect, DLSS3, and of course, full ray tracing.
The project won't be possible without the effort of four teams who dedicate their time to transform this "Half-Life 2" mod with a new-gen look.
The team, now known as Orbifold Studious is the result of the collaboration of the modding groups from the community.
At the time, Nvidia had not yet announced when the "Half-Life 2 RTX" was coming. However, there are already photos of the upcoming PC game that can make you have a second look.

'Half-Life 2' Visuals Are Just Astonishingly Great
According to The Verge, the comparison images of "Half-Life 2" will surprise you in an instant. Just how far the game progressed, it's been a thrilling ride for it to get a modern look at this time.
The first picture features an alien-looking species sitting on a wooden top. With RTX off, we can closely see that the wood has quite blurry details. When you turn on the RTX, a more realistic wood will appear. The design of the alien is also better.
The second image shows the classic suit with a transparent undershirt. When it's on the RTX mode, it instantly becomes a costume we can usually see on TVs mainly in sci-fi movies. The improved visuals are just amazing.
In the third and last picture, we can see an old PC placed on a wooden desk. The modders made sure that the computer will still preserve the classic touch but with a shine of how a modern machine looks like.
'Half-Life' Already Received Ray-Tracing Treatment in the Past
While the latest mod appears to be "Half-Life 2's" first ray-tracing treatment, it's not the case. There's also a separate mod made for the 1998 version of the game.
You can buy and install this game on Steam through this link. If you have a "Half-Life 2' VR Mod, you can also play that, but it's not guaranteed to work with a hacked version of the game.
