Majority of Teens Consider Android Phones an Outdated Technology Just For Old People

Some students called Android users "medieval" or "broke."

The majority of teens nowadays consider Android phones as outdated. You can try asking your child to see his/her preference when it comes to handsets.

Considering that older people prefer Android phones as a cheaper alternative to iPhones, it is noteworthy to conclude that it boils down to affordability.

The Wall Street Journal reports 87% of teenagers have iPhones, and they do not have any plans to switch to Android.

For instance, a viral video posted in April suggests that teenager Abdoul Chamberlain believed that "Droid" phones are only for those at least 50 years old.

There's actually a "Droid" brand from Motorola. It's one of the first phones that the company created 14 years ago. Back then, it was dubbed as an "iPhone slayer" by many in the US.

As the years progressed, the iPhone models became much more appealing to young users. Chamberlain said that only the parents own the Droid phones up to this day.

Chamberlain knew that some Android users claimed that the other brands could surpass the cameras of Apple's handsets. However, it's still not a reason to transition from iPhone.

Android Users Are Called 'Medieval' and 'Broke'

This might be your first time hearing that the words "broke" and "medieval" are associated with Android users. As Phone Arena spotted, some high schoolers taunted Android users under such a category.

The ease of use of the iPhone might be a strong reason why youngsters choose it over Android.

Apart from that, many iPhone models have more advanced features than their counterparts, but it does not apply to other variants since, at the end of the day, it will still vary from one handset to another.

More Teens Are iOS Users in the US

As per the data from Statcounter, iOS users in the US have a 57% to 42% margin. This suggests that 87% of the young users are iPhone owners who also said they would buy another iPhone in the future in case their current devices go haywire.

However, the iOS vs. Android battle in the US is not the same as a global phenomenon. 71% are Android phone owners, while only 28% own iPhones.

Gen Z users might be enticed to use the iPhone since it is viewed as innovative. However, there's no doubt that Android phones are gradually catching up with Apple when it comes to end-to-end encryption, high-quality photos, and text bubbles, but instead of green, it's blue.

That said, seeing a green text bubble signals teens to type words on iMessage. They do not know that the same functionality exists in the Android world.

It's bizarre to know that iPhone teens are very vocal against Android owners whom they call "medieval," even if they know that some Android phones are more expensive than some iPhone models.
