Samsung has unveiled the next iteration of its tilting 1080p projector lineup, the Freestyle Gen 2. This updated model brings a unique feature to the table, as it becomes the world's first portable projector to integrate cloud gaming capabilities, enabling console-free gameplay through a Bluetooth controller.
According to New Atlas, inheriting several features from its predecessor, the Freestyle Gen 2 maintains key attributes such as Full HD resolution, a throw ratio of 1.2, a 30,000-hour LED light source, an impressive contrast ratio of 100,000:1, auto keystone correction, autofocus, and consistent dimensions and weight.
The innovative hinge-equipped cradle allows users to swiftly shift the projector from projecting visuals onto a wall to projecting them onto a ceiling.
Samsung Freestyle Gen 2: Standout Feature
Content connectivity remains via HDMI cables, while integrated Wi-Fi 5 enables streaming and casting. Furthermore, the Samsung projector now boasts support for HDR10+ technology.
The standout feature of this edition is Samsung's integration of its cloud-based Gaming Hub platform, granting users access to a multitude of games from partners like Xbox, Amazon Luna, Utomik, Anstream, and Blacknut.
This innovation allows casual gamers to enjoy expansive gaming visuals at a 60 Hz refresh rate. It's worth mentioning that the projector is not bundled with gaming controllers, but Samsung assures compatibility with any Bluetooth controller.
Running on the Tizen OS, the Freestyle Gen 2 offers access to different services and apps like those on Samsung's Smart TVs. Additionally, the device incorporates a TV and video-on-demand service with an ad-supported model.
The 360-degree Dolby audio enhances the auditory experience for gaming and entertainment purposes. The projector can be powered by a USB adapter or connected to a portable power bank, making it suitable for outdoor entertainment scenarios like campsites or backyard gatherings.
Samsung New Projector Available for Pre-Order
The Freestyle Gen 2 is now available for pre-order at a price of $799.99. Early adopters are in for an extra treat, as Samsung offers a complimentary IP55-rated storage case with each purchase.
Samsung describes the product as a seamless, user-friendly solution for creating a personalized home theater experience. The Easy Set Up feature simplifies the installation process, eliminating the need for intricate adjustments.
With the inclusion of Smart Entertainment, users can conveniently access apps, workouts, recipes, and shows. The incorporation of Gaming Hub provides a gateway to stream Xbox games directly from the Freestyle projector.
While the device functions best in dimly lit indoor settings, it is also optimized for outdoor use during dusk or nighttime scenarios, according to the company.
