Can PS5 Pro Beat RTX 4090? Here’s What the Rumors Say

How can Sony's gaming machine fare with a powerful graphics card?

The PS5 Pro has been the centerpiece of the gaming industry for some time. Early rumors say that the upgraded version of PlayStation 5 will arrive in June 2023, yet it did not happen.

The popular video game console has the potential to be the first 8k gaming machine yet again, it's still not confirmed if this is true.

For now, let's see if the sky's the limit for the PS5 Pro versus the RTX 4090. Is it really powerful enough to surpass this graphics card?

Why 8K Gaming is Not Viable For PS5 Pro

For years, fans speculated that the PS5 Pro would get a major upgrade that we did not see from the regular console. As early as 2020, rumors about its specs kept on spreading but no one can prove their legitimacy.

According to Sportskeeda's previous discussion, PS5 Pro won't stick to 8K gaming which means that it will fall back to 4K.

At the time, 1080p was regarded as the most popular resolution that most gamers prefer. If Sony dares to launch the PS5 Pro with 8K capability, that wouldn't be a breeze.

If Sony pushes the PS5 Pro's limit to the fullest, we could get 8K, but there are downsides. First, it will be extremely expensive and even the majority of gamers can't afford to purchase it.

The standard pricing for Sony's consoles only falls between $500 and $600. If the Pro version will enter the market soon, it will only find itself stuck in the same position as RTX 4090.

Generally speaking, Sony needs to consider the budget of the public before rolling out an 8K gaming console for everyone.

Can PS5 Pro Compete With RTX 4090

As much as we want to see a more powerful PS5 version being dropped to the shelves, it's expected that it won't be as easy as it sounds.

PS5 Pro, according to Sportskeeda, will be only nearly as powerful as the RTX 4070 line. If we're talking about the AMD hardware side, we can compare it to the RX 7800 or RX 7700 XT. These GPUs have not yet reached the crowd and it will take some time before we assess their power compared to Sony's rumored console.

As for Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two's CEO, mid-gen console upgrades won't leave a lasting impact. He particularly said that the enhancements for the rumored PS5 Pro "aren't all that meaningful" to hear.

From the publisher's perspective, Zelnick thinks that the next-gen upgrades are solely revolving around storage and graphical boosts. They do not address the part of the developers who are assigned to program and create the games from scratch.

While Zelnick's statement slightly teases our possible impression about the PS5 Pro launch, it could also give another point-of-view that we might not expect from the refreshed version of Sony's gaming machine.
