The world may be talking about the Apple M3 chip and the Apple Watch X, but there is a device that might not make it to release this year or in the coming years, and this is the Mac Pro. The latest report from an analyst suggests that Apple has centered on dedicating its M3 development to its regular line of Macs releases.
Apple Mac Pro May be Discontinued says Analyst
The latest Power On Newsletter from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman talked a lot about the M3 chips and their future designation on Apple's computer and development. However, apart from the talks of the new chip coming to future Mac devices, there is one computer that may not see the light of day in the future.
As per Gurman, there might be updated M3 versions coming for the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, "if Apple continues making those." Digital Trends reported that this comment may be meant for the Mac Pro, especially as it is on the more premium and niche side of consumerism.
It is important to note that Apple's previous Mac Pro from last year already set users about $7,000 for its base version, not to mention the other variants and tweaks that would add more to its total.
Mac Pro: M3 Update Not Coming As of Now
While it was not directly referred by Gurman that it will see discontinuation, the Mac Pro may be 50/50 on its future arrival as part of the Mac lineup.
The M3 remains the focus for now, and not yet the intended processors for the Mac Pro and Studio, which is speculated as the M3 Ultra and Pro.
There are no announcements yet regarding M3's upgrade, which makes the Mac Pro stand on shaky footing as of now, on the verge of discontinuation.
Apple's Development of the Mac Pro
Earlier this year, Apple revealed the update of the Mac Pro which first got its silicon chip from the company, featuring the 4nm process from TSMC, optimized for this computer called the M2 Ultra. When it was unveiled earlier this June, one of the most noticeable features it brought is its cheese grater design, but also its $6,999.99 price point.
Before this, Apple released the last Mac Pro back in 2019, made available by the company in December, and was among the releases which saw a significant block due to the pandemic. Still, this Mac Pro saw massive fame because of its design, as well as its massive computing power that initially relied on the Intel processors, paired with Apple's tech.
Now that Apple centers on all things Silicon and designed by its engineers, the Mac Pro is expected to get an update from Cupertino with the M3, but that seems unlikely yet. Either it boils down to Apple creating a new version of the M3 like it did with the M2 Pro and Ultra, or discontinuing the Mac Pro altogether, with Gurman speculating that only the Mac Studio will get the upgrade.
