Ride-hailing giant Uber looks behind other companies when it comes to AI development. Despite this, the firm managed to rake out impressive revenue for the second quarter of 2023.
Following this milestone, Uber announced that it's currently developing an AI-powered chatbot that it can integrate into its app.
Uber AI Chatbot
According to a report by Bloomberg on Tuesday, Aug. 1, Uber is currently working on a new AI venture featuring an upcoming AI-powered chatbot.
The ride-hailing leader hopes that this feature will contribute to the profitability of its business. Additionally, the company sees this as an advantage for the other tasks in the field of automation, marketing, and customer service.
In an interview with Bloomberg, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said that they are developing the chatbot at the moment. Although he did not dive into the particular features of the AI chatbot, he pointed out that it will be used for business-specific undertakings.
"We have been working with machine learning, artificial intelligence systems for years and years. Every time you get matched up with a car or a courier, there are algorithms making that happen, from the time of day, distance, all of that is driven by machine learning," Khosrowshahi told Emily Chang.
With more companies building their own chatbots such as Instacart and DoorDash, Uber needs to adapt to the swiftly-evolving AI trend as part of its business improvement.
For reference, DoorDash's DashAI is a huge help in its business by providing customers with more options in the app section. Meanwhile, Instacat launched "Ask Instacart" which it boasted to rely on OpenAI's API (application programming interface). If customers have questions about food preparation, they could just ask right away via the app with a single tap.

Uber Saw Profits For the First Time
As per The Messenger, Uber managed to earn $326 million in operating profit in the second quarter of 2023. The report says that the total revenue of the company at that time reached $9.2 billion which equates to 14.3% growth compared to 2022.
Uber is at a loss of hope in transition given that it's touted to stand out among other competitors in Silicon Valley in a matter of time. However, it gradually fell off in maintaining its business.
This is why Uber's profitability came out as a surprise for the experts who did not expect this to happen. Another thing is it low-key downplays the power of AI tech, unlike other firms that promoted it.
As a matter of fact, Uber executives only uttered AI just once all throughout the earnings report.
Last month, Tech Times reported that Uber faced a lawsuit after UberEats drivers accused the company of not compensating them for their "work-related" expenses.
The ruling was taken to the Supreme Court of California. Apart from the drivers, the case was considered to be a win for the entire labor rights community.
