Hasbro 'Dungeons & Dragons' Could Get AI Support as Company Partners With Xplored

Hasbro is now among the latest companies that will use AI to improve the players' gaming experience.

With more companies adapting to artificial intelligence (AI), even gaming businesses are trying to use the technology. Hasbro, the parent company of "Dungeons & Dragons" maker Wizards of the Coast, is now among the companies that will utilize AI to improve the players' gaming experience.

Hasbro Partners With Xplored, the Developer Behind Teberu, to Explore AI Solutions

According to Gizmodo, Hasbro has recently partnered with Xplored, which is known to be the developer behind Teberu, a digital board game platform. In a press release,

Adam Biehl, gaming senior VP of Hasbro, said the partnership with Xplored would let the company provide "innovative gameplay" to players and fans. He added that the partnership would also allow the company to have powerful AI-driven game mechanics and seamless onboarding.

GamesRadar asked the VP for additional information, and with that, Biehl responded that they would be using AI to "generate experiences" that would react to player decisions immediately.

Teburu Is a Virtual Tabletop Solution for 'Dungeons & Dragons' Players

Biehl added that it could also potentially streamline rules to make it easier on newer players. Through the partnership, Hasbro could also study Xplored's technology, particularly when it comes to Teburu.

Teburu was revealed as a virtual tabletop solution for "Dungeons & Dragons" players in May. Polygon, for example, was able to playtest its pre-alpha version of the title in May.

Gaming Senior VP of Hasbro Entertaining the Potential Use of AI to Enhance the Experience

Adam Biehl told GamesRadar about the different specifics of different AI-driven mechanics, particularly regarding tabletop experiences like "Dungeons & Dragons." Biehl noted that the AI technology would be used to "enrich" Hasbro's current games and lead toward the birth of new titles.

However, the outlet reported that those ambitions might have already hit a snag as the Dungeon Masters Guild announced it would restrict the sale of "standalone" AI art products.

With regards to AI-generated art in rulebooks and adventures, they had to be explicitly tagged as coming from artificial intelligence. Written content that was "primarily" AI-generated would not be allowed on the platform in any capacity starting July 31.

Dungeon Masters Guild Still Has a Strong Stance Regarding Labeling AI Content

The Dungeon Masters Guild has long been the largest third-party digital storefront for the popular "Dungeons & Dragons." So far, it remains unknown as to whether the stance will change due to Hasbro's new relationship with Xplored.

Since Hasbro itself will be partnering with Xplored for eventual plans regarding the incorporation of AI into its tabletop titles, it remains to be unseen how the Dungeon Masters Guild performs.

It was also reported that Hasbro's earnings call would happen on August 3, during its annual GenCon tabletop convention's first day. Due to this, fans would have to wait for more information regarding Hasbro's future plans for AI.
