Food delivery platform DoorDash is introducing a not-so-common feature to its app for drivers. The CarPlay support which was brought to Uber back in February, is now expected to "make the dashing experience even better" for the service providers.
However, there's a glaring difference between the CarPlay and the Uber CarPlay version.
Dasher App Gets Apple CarPlay Support
Following the launch of CarPlay to the Dasher app, DoorDash aims to follow what Uber has done a few months ago.
While it's interesting to know that the DoorDash app for food delivery is already present, it has certain limitations that keep it from being useful for drivers.
As 9to5Mac states in its report, the current version of DoorDash's CarPlay does not offer a navigation feature like what we see in Google or Apple Maps.
"Integrating the Dasher app with Apple CarPlay will allow Dashers to seamlessly show the app's navigation interface on their car's built-in screens," DoorDash clarified.
The company admits that it still lacks some features that drivers mostly need such as the ability to accept orders and mark the deliveries complete. It does not also show a status update about the order.
In comparison, Uber CarPlay support offers a more immersive experience by allowing users to accept or decline rides. They could also track hotspots where the goods are usually delivered or picked up.

More CarPlay App Features Are Coming in the Future
As DoorDash says, the CarPlay app is expected to roll out more features in the future. By next week, the current version of the delivery app for drivers will undergo testing in select markets.
In the next few months, Dashers can expect to see more functionalities added to the app, according to the online food ordering firm.
We're always looking for ways to make dashing even better, even easier, and even more intuitive," said Austin Haugen, Vice President of Dasher and Logistics Product. "Apple CarPlay is one of our most highly requested features among the Dasher community, because it allows them to dash using the same technology many of them use on a daily basis. We're thrilled to bring this integration to life and eager to hear feedback from Dashers as we scale.
At the moment, the CarPlay app is now ready for download from the App Store. Dashers can now install it so that once it becomes officially available, they can use it right away.
In another report by Live and Let's Fly, a doctor in Rhode Island shared his story on TikTok where a DoorDash driver complained about his 33% tip because he has a nice house.
The customer was surprised about the driver's reaction right after receiving a $5 tip for a 20-minute ride. It appears that the tip is not yet enough for the driver.
