DoorDash is accused of overcharging iPhone users.
Because of these allegations, the food delivery platform is now facing a lawsuit, which seeks class-action status.
The lawsuit claims that DoorDash applies a fee to iPhone users when they are very far from the restaurants they are ordering from.
But, the main issue is not the fee. The major problem with this charge is that it has no "rhyme or reason" as to when DoorDash applies it.
DoorDash Allegedly Overcharges iPhone Users!
According to Engadget's latest report, the lawsuit claims that the Expanded Range fee of DoorDash is tacked onto iPhone users often compared to Android users.
It further stated that DoorDash could be doing this because some studies claim that iPhone users earn more than Android users.
Aside from this, the plaintiff behind the lawsuit also confirmed that they already conducted a test to see how DoorDash applies its Expanded Range fee.
"In a test on the DoorDash Platform, DoorDash applied the Expanded Range Fee to a DashPass account, but not to a standard account," said the lawsuit via 9To5Mac.
It added that the Expanded Range fee was not applied evenly, even though they used a DashPass and standard account to place the same order at the same time.
Possible Reasons Why DoorDash Overcharges iPhone Users
Aside from the provided reasons above, the lawsuit also claims that DoorDash overcharges iPhone users so that the company can subsidize its lost revenues from discounted fees.
"DoorDash uses this deceptive practice to trick consumers into believing Dashers receive the 'delivery-related' fees," explained the plaintiff.
The lawsuit added that each and every delivery fee is actually retained by DoorDash.
As of writing, Ross Hecox and his minor children, the individuals who filed the lawsuit, are asking the U.S. District Court of Maryland for monetary damages of more than $1 billion.
DoorDash is yet to make any comment regarding the legal action filed against it.
