The Google Home app is getting an update with a home panel that allows users to better monitor home devices. This comes after Google announced the public rollout of the revamped version of its app.
Google Announced the Google Home Update During Its I/O 2023 Event Back in May
According to the story by Android Police, this comes after the announcement of Google during the May I/O 2023 event, which saw the revamped version of the app. The new redesign is designed to give the app new features that users can customize with the Favorites page, which users can use to easily access their different devices.
For users with Pixel devices, the Google Home app introduced a new home panel for users to allow users to jump into device controls on their Quick Settings panel or lock screen. The panel initially launched on the Pixel Tablet and was supposed to launch with the June 2023 Feature drop for different Pixel devices.
The New Feature Comes as Part of the Google Home v3.3 Update for Pixel Devices with the Android 14 OS
However, since it didn't launch in June, fans had to wait for the feature until now, when the feature has finally been available for Pixel smartphones. This comes as Google launched the new Google Home v3.3 update, according to 9to5Google.
Other users are already seeing the panel becoming available on the older version of the app. For users with Pixel devices using the Android 14 operating system, the new home panel is expected to launch with a server-side push.
Users Would Easily be Able to Access Smart Home Devices from Their Pixel Quick Settings or Lock Screen
Users would be able to add their most frequently accessed smart home devices to their very own home panel, and it would allow users to be able to control them from their Pixel Quick Settings or lock screen. The home panel would be connected to the user's favorite tab so any devices that users modify would reflect the changes.
The company beta-tested the new Home app for more than six months, and Google was able to use this period to actively pay attention to the feedback of users through the testing process. The new home panel gives better app usefulness, which makes it easier for users to access key device controls.
How to Get the Google Home v3.3 Update on Google Play Store or from APKMirror
So far, the home panel is only accessible to Pixel phones and should be expanding further to Android phones later this year. Users should be able to get the update through the Google Home v.3.3 updates on the Play Store.
However, if users cannot see the update on the Play Store and still want to get the latest version of Google Home, they would have to get it manually via side loading. To do this, users would need to download the APK version directly from APKMirror to get the v.3.3 update.
