Xiaomi Automotive, the emerging automotive division of the renowned Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi Corporation, is generating considerable buzz despite not having unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV) model yet.
Recent leaks suggest that Xiaomi may be working on an impressive EV battery pack boasting an 800-volt platform and over 100 kWh of battery power.
What is Xiaomi Automotive?
Back in September 2021, Xiaomi reportedly registered an EV division as an official business in China. At that time, the tech giant only noted that it was already in a "substantial development phase."
Now, almost two years later, the company aims to stretch its coverage in the business. Aside from producing smartphones and other consumer electronics, Xiaomi plans to enter the EV market soon.
According to Electrek, Xiaomi's ambitious move to invade the automotive industry has led it to test its own self-driving EV technology.
By next year, the Chinese firm will attempt to manufacture a fully-functional EV to compete with other brands in the Chinese market.
Of course, this won't be an easy battle for the starting EV maker since a lot of established players in the market continue to add more enhancements to their EVs.
