Amidst the many companies boycotting or dropping their support for Apple's CarPlay, the German luxury and sports automaker, Porsche, has recently introduced new features and tech to its infotainment system. Porsche revamped the Apple CarPlay experience on its vehicles, and the changes bring significant developments including the addition of vehicle functions.
The infotainment system is supposed to bring users everything they need to control or know about the car, apart from the dashboard, and this is only a testament to tech integration in modern cars.
Porsche Integrates New Vehicle Functions on Revamped Apple CarPlay
Porsche announced via its press release that there are upcoming features to anticipate in its vehicles, centering on the CarPlay feature available on its infotainment system. In this release, Porsche said that these features bring vehicle functions and other experiences straight into the CarPlay system including climate control, adjusting preferences or settings, audio, ambient lighting, and more.
The German car company's "wellness modes" are also available via quick actions including "Relax," "Warm Up," and "Refresh."
Its new features are available via the My Porsche app, available on the Apple App Store which helps bring these tech in the connected experience via CarPlay.
Porsche is Embracing the Apple CarPlay Experience
This move shows Porsche as a company that embraces the Apple CarPlay experience in their cars, instead of shooing them away. As per the release, it is "the first automotive manufacturer to allow for easier access of vehicle functions within CarPlay."
"We are excited to further improve the My Porsche App and use the capabilities of Apple CarPlay to deliver a truly enhanced customer experience," says Mattias Ulbrich, CEO of Porsche Digital and CIO of Porsche AG.
It is also looking forward to the future of integrating tech, saying that "Technology and digitization are crucial factors for the enduring fascination of our brand - now and in the next 75 years."
Apple CarPlay and its Relationship to Automakers
One of the most famous car-to-phone link technologies now is the Apple CarPlay, alongside its competitor, Google's Android Auto, both made for connecting to smartphones. The connected experience also grew larger as the electric vehicle transition took place, with a feature called "EV Routing" that delivers the best navigation for clean energy cars that take into account their range and charging stations along the way.
However, not all companies are ecstatic to bring the Apple CarPlay to their systems.
One example would be General Motors who have dropped its CarPlay support in favor of the Android Auto, particularly as the Detroit-based company is also having Google co-create its future displays.
There are also snobs like Tesla which is developing its software for the in-car phone link and experience.
Apple CarPlay saw many companies dropping the support for its tech, and while this is apparent in the current car industry, there are still integrations of its tech for automakers. Porsche keeps its partnership with Apple to deliver a new in-vehicle experience for the drivers and passengers, now with a revamped CarPlay with integrated vehicle functions on one screen.
