The renowned note-taking app, Evernote, has recently laid off most of its US employees and staff, including their Chile-based operations, as the company moves forward to a different future. This is because it is amidst its move to Europe, after last year's acquisition from the Italy-based company, Bending Spoons, with its operations centering on the neighboring continent.
Evernote has been a significant note-taking app for many, and it was best known for being bundled with Samsung's smartphones before, with the company's product still available worldwide.
Evernote is Moving to Europe to Join Bending Spoons
Evernote announced on its blog post that massive changes are coming to the company's operations, and it centers on the move to Europe to join its now parent company, Bending Spoons. This was after last year's successful acquisition of its entirety by the Italy-based company, regarded as a prominent entity in the European market.
The move to Europe is regarded as a beneficial boost for Evernote, as it would see "operational efficiency" with its newfound home.
The company did not reveal where its base of operations would be in Europe, only saying that it is joining Bending Spoons in this move.
Evernote Laid Off Most of its US, Chile Staff
Amidst this move also comes the end for its US and Chile staff, as the company has recently laid off most of its staff in these countries as it moves forward.
Francesco Patarnello, Evernote CEO, regarded that "Unfortunately, this transition required that most of our Chile- and US-based employees be laid off, and on July 5 the layoff communication took place. We're committed to supporting those impacted with a substantial separation package."
According to The Verge, the company offered as much as 16 weeks of severance, one year of health insurance coverage, and a performance bonus that have all been paid out.
Evernote and Other Note Apps
The era of smartphone gave the world many apps to enjoy, and among those were Evernote, with the application centering on Productivity and lifestyle features with massive developments over the years. Gone are the days when people need to write on paper to organize their schedules or simply take notes, with these kinds of apps providing the experience.
There were many note apps available in the world, and most aim to provide users with an all-in-one tech that would help in organizing and accessing thoughts, scribbles, and more. Microsoft also had its version with OneNote that allows cross-platform accessibility and sync.
Springpad also introduced features that rivaled Evernote, but the app previously shut down, leaving many to look for other platforms to use.
The massive acquisition of Evernote last year by Bending Spoons is set to bring a different experience for all, but instead of operating from the United States, the app will now be based in Europe for its future operations. The layoffs are done and Evernote is leaving behind its birthplace in the US, off to new beginnings in Europe for its global operations.
