'Witchfire' Launch to Be Exclusive to Epic Games Store as It Skips Steam; Game Will Also Come to Other Platforms

The "Witchfire" game will not have a Steam launch.

"Witchfire" is expected to be launched soon, but as it nears its release date, an announcement reveals that it will only be available on Epic Games Store, which means that the game would ultimately skip releasing its title on Steam.

The Astronauts Clarifies That the 'Witchfire' Game Will be Exclusively Released on Epic Games Store for Early Access

According to DSO Gaming, The Astronauts, the developer of the "Witchfire," has officially announced that the upcoming first-person shooter game will be an exclusive release to Epic Games Store upon launch. Thus, the title will ultimately be skipping Steam.

The Astronauts announced it via Twitter, even answering three of the most common questions. The first question was regarding what platform the game would be launched on, and to this, the developer said that its Early Access would be exclusive to Epic Games Store.

'Witchfire' Game Would Still be Launched on Other Platforms, Specifically PC or Consoles

The announcement highlighted that this was just for Early Access, and the developer noted that it will still be doing other platforms in the future. Specifically, The Astronauts said it would do other platforms, "be it PC or consoles."

Another question asked was whether the title comes with a customizable HUD/UI just like an FoV slider and a centered crosshair or if players would get the option to hide the damage numbers. To this, The Astronauts replied, "Yes."

'Witchfire' Was Initially Announced in a 2017 Teaser for the Title

The announcement also addressed another question regarding whether the game would still retain what was said to be a "horror atmosphere," which was initially teased in 2017. The Astronauts answered, "Yes."

The developer also explained more about the game, saying it was a dark fantasy shooter and that it emphasized "dark," saying gamers will "learn to fear... things." The announcement also came with an official date for Early Access on Epic Games Store, reportedly on September 20.

The Game Was Described as a 'Roguelike First-Person Shooter' Title

It was also revealed that the "Witchfire" game will be a roguelike first-person shooter game, which comes with a promise of a challenging but still satisfying gameplay experience. It was also highlighted that players would be presented with multiple paths to victory, giving them more freedom in the game.

The game reportedly takes advantage of Unreal Engine 4 and will reportedly be taking advantage of what was described as photogrammetry. As explained by Autodesk, photogrammetry was the art and science of being able to extract 3D information solely based on photographs.

'Witchfire' Game Was Described as Incredible Upon Launch in 2017, but This Might Not Remain True Today

The game was originally announced in 2017, and DSO Gaming highlighted that it looked more like what was described as a "traditional single-player game."

Despite that, the title did show some visuals during its announcement that could have been incredible back then but may not really blow minds away today. The "Witchfire" Summer Game Fest 2023 trailer still hinted that the game was a "niche game."
