YouTube TV is expanding a feature previously only available for sports. It is the multiview option, which will now include other types of content. With the new changes, the multiview feature will also be available for non-sports viewing.
YouTube TV Extends Multiview Feature to Other Streams, Not Just on Sports
According to Engadget, users can see up to four sports streams on the screen simultaneously when the multiview feature was launched in March. It became an extremely useful feature when watching different angles of specific sports.
Even users who do not watch sports events can now use the multiview feature, which includes more streaming options. Aside from sports, these new features would allow users to watch the news and even weather content in multiview.
However, it was reported that users would still need to choose from preselected videos and will not be able to choose "whatever stream they want to watch" with the multiview feature. Although still limited, this gives users additional options for streaming aside from just sports events.
YouTube TV Multiview Feature Launched In Time for NCAA's March Madness
YouTube TV's multiview feature was launched in March, focusing on sports, just in time for the March Madness of the NCAA. It is reportedly on all smart TVs and media players that can run YouTube TV as the processing is done on the servers of the service.
Although viewers can watch all four streams at once, they can quickly jump to a full-screen view for each one and then switch the audio and the captioning to whatever event they want to keep an eye on at the moment.
YouTube TV Added Spanish-Language Sports Channels to the List of Streams
It was also reported that YouTube TV added Spanish-language sports channels to its preselected stream options for Spanish or Spanish Plus plan members. Some users may not have access to this feature yet, but they will soon have, as YouTube TV said it will gradually roll out these updates to all users over the summer.
New Update Gives Users Access to News, Business News, Weather, and 'Deportes'
Fans can check what the feature looks like via a GIF posted by YouTube TV on Twitter. The new feature will show an alternative to sports streams, as users can also watch weather news in the multiview option.
The caption highlighted how some members could test out up to five "brand new multiview streams that will be available to watch 24/7 across news, sports, business news, weather, and Deportes."
Fans can learn more about the multiview feature on Google's support page, highlighting how to switch in and out of this multiview feature and also help users manage their watch history. The support page specified that this feature would not be available for web or mobile device users.
