Apple MacBook Air 15-Inch Teardown is Challenging, iFixit Says Not Much Changed

Repairing their own MacBook Airs may be a challenge soon.

The latest Apple computer, the MacBook Air, is now a glorified device with 15 inches of display, and this is the first time that the lightweight laptop receives a larger body, recently the subject of a teardown. The famous company called iFixit opened the latest computer of the famed Cupertino giant and what it found inside was the same as the 13-inch variant.

It claimed that the only notable change here was the bigger battery installed on the larger laptop, but it is the same device as the 13-inch MacBook Air which also featured the M2.

Famed repair guide content creator, iFixit, has recently released their version of the 15-inch MacBook Air teardown which showed how it is to open up the latest computer of Apple. One of the most notable changes here is with the battery, as Apple had more leeway for the device's bigger build to slap a larger power cell that features more usage time for users.

As per iFixit's comments on the new computer, it described the process of opening the laptop to be "miserable" and a "maze," about its repair accessibility.

This is despite iFixit previously claiming that Apple made the M2 13-inch MacBook Air to be easier to teardown compared to its older versions in their past video.

Bigger Battery and Not Much Else says iFixit

According to 9to5 Mac's report, the latest teardown video claimed that the 15-inch MacBook Air did not change as much compared to last year's M2 13-inch MacBook Air release from Apple. While the battery brought a bigger form and is the most noticeable change in this device, there were no significant changes from the past version to this.

Apple's 15-inch MacBook Air

Apple revealed the new MacBook Air that features a larger display in the recent WWDC 2023, and it gave the world a lightweight laptop that still takes on the iconic thin build of the lineup. This is the first time that Apple debuted a bigger size for the MacBook Air, as before, there were smaller sizes up to 11 inches that were already discontinued.

The world's best 15-inch laptop, as claimed by Apple, is a massive leap for its iconic form factor, being significantly thinner compared to the MacBook Pro lineup, but no longer has the thinning part towards the trackpad. Apple's latest designs for the Air are compact and flat, resembling that of the Pro laptops, but have components that make it lighter.

Apple's MacBook Air with the 15-inch body features more to see for users while having the familiar light build like its predecessors. However, it is the same in terms of components and repair on its underside, with the recent teardown from iFixit claiming that not much has changed, and would certainly be a challenge for those looking into self-repairs.
