iPhone 15 Models Will Have 48 MP Camera, New Rumor Claims

The full iPhone 15 range will be getting an upgraded camera system.

Apple is reportedly considering expanding the camera capabilities of its iPhone lineup. Rumors suggest that after introducing a 48MP camera in the iPhone 14 Pro models, Apple may extend this powerful camera system to the entire iPhone 15 family.

These rumors stem from reports indicating that Sony, one of Apple's camera suppliers, is experiencing production constraints due to increased demand.

Apple Rumored to Roll Out 48 MP Camera to All iPhone 15 Models

According to a report by the Chinese-speaking publication IT Home, Sony has reached out to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for assistance in handling the surge in orders. Sony's camera units, including the color filter film, are facing pressure due to Apple's adoption of the 48MP camera in their smartphones.

Apple is allegedly planning a comprehensive upgrade to the 48MP camera system for the entire iPhone 15 lineup rather than limiting it to the Pro models alone.

The adoption of this advanced camera setup, dubbed "state-of-the-art sensors," has led to a higher demand for the camera hardware, causing manufacturing strain for Sony. Sony may expand its back-end manufacturing processes to cope with the increased orders, as it has previously done with companies like TSMC.

The complexity of Sony's camera setup, which involves a triple-layer structure and stacking technology for superior image quality, has contributed to their manufacturing concerns. The stacking technology enhances sensitivity and reduces image noise in photos.

iPhone 15 Production Delay

Earlier reports in May 2023 also hinted at potential production delays for the iPhone 15 lineup, partly due to supply constraints related to the camera systems.

iPhone 15 Will Contain a Cheaper Chip

Another story from Tom's Guide tells that the upcoming Apple handset will have its chip swapped to a "cost-cutting N3E" process from A17 bionic rumor.

The leak, which came from a Weibo user named Cell Phone Chip Expert, suggests that cheaper chips will be coming in 2024.

If true, consumers could expect a lower MSRP for the upcoming handhelds. This is great news for those planning to purchase an iPhone 15. However, this might not appeal to others who wish to see a highly-advanced processor coming to the scene.

No Solid-State Buttons For iPhone 15

Meanwhile, Tech Times reported back in April that the iPhone 15 Pro will not feature solid-state buttons. Reliable tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the smartphone would revert to its traditional design when it comes to this part.

The rumor appears to be supported by a report from two analysts Shelly Choi and Jeff Pu that the Cupertino giant won't be adding extra bulk to the next iPhone lineup. If that's the case, then we might allegedly see it returning by 2024 when the iPhone 16 models come out.

It is important to note that these are rumors and should be treated as such until Apple or other reliable sources make official announcements.
