Speculations claim that this upcoming earphone model is being designed to work with the most-awaited iPhone 15. Does it mean that the iconic EarPods will be here to stay?

Previously, the European Union announced that new regulations would require gadget makers to follow the universal charging standard, which is USB-C.

At first, Apple showed the intent of making all its gadgets wireless; releasing wireless chargers, etc. However, it looks like Apple has another thing in mind by allegedly working on a new wired EarPods version.

As of press time, Apple's iconic EarPods still use the company's advanced Lightning Cable.

However, Apple Insider reported that a new version with a USB-C cable is being developed. This detail was first shared by a reliable Apple leaker on Twitter, ShrimpApplePro.

For those who are not familiar with this individual, he is a gadget leaker with a good track record for Apple leaks.

The tech leaker claims that Apple is working on USB-C MFi (Made for iPhone) cables. He added that a new version of EarPods with a USB-C cable is also on its way.

ShrimpApplePro further stated that the tech giant manufacturer is actually mass-producing the new EarPods model and its USB-C MFi cables.

"Theoretically, the same way MFI Lightning works just now is USB-C. We rarely see it cuz Lightning has been here for a while, and it has been bypassed," said the leaker via his official Twitter post.

"Also, USB-C MFI cables and Earpods are in mass production for a while is the best proof that it's happening," added ShrimpApplePro.

Expected Arrival, Other Details

ShrimpApplePro said that the new USB-C EarPods could be released before the launch schedule of the new iPhone 15 lineup, which is in the fall of 2023.

He added that the EarPods model would be released along with the most-awaited Apple AirPods charging case, which has a USB-C port.

Apple released its iconic EarPods in the market back in December 2016.

Although many consumers disregard this earphone model (there are already AirPods more advanced than EarPods), EarPods are still a great cheaper option for those who prefer wired earphones.
