Apple on Monday unveiled its new mixed reality "Vision Pro" headset as well as its hefty price tag, and many netizens reacted to it. Apple's new mixed reality headset reportedly cost a whopping $3,499.
Apple Vision Pro Difference From the Oculus Quest 2
Similar gadgets, like the Oculus Quest 2, would only cost buyers a few hundred dollars. According to IGN, netizens find it hard to believe Apple would sell its new mixed-reality headsets at that price.
The headsets are expected to be released in 2024. According to the company's announcement, it will allow users to work, socialize, and even watch movies using the visor.
Aside from the hardware, the device would be coming with VisionOS, which was designed by the company specifically for spatial computing abilities. While users can do multiple things on the gadget, one particular thing about it that was highlighted by the netizens is its price.
Netizens Compared the Price of the Headset to Buying a Car
Twitter users started sharing memes regarding the Apple headset's price and how expensive it was. One user named @JonComms noted that the person in the promotional video "had to sell everything," highlighting just how expensive the device was.
Another Twitter user, @MikeIsaac, asked if he "should i buy a used car or an apple vision pro," which shows just how expensive the device is. Depending on the model, people could already use the money as a downpayment on a car.
Twitter User Shares How the Apple Headset Was Designed for Developers and Not Average Users
Some Twitter users also find the price of the Vision Pro headset in the same range as used cars. They said they would not pay the same amount of cash for the new Apple gadget. Twitter user @AshleyEsqueda believed the Apple product was designed more for tech companies and developers "to buy and make sh*t with."
Some Twitter users noted that tech companies and developers would buy it to begin creating an ecosystem for VisionOS. If the current model is for developers, some netizens said Apple should launch a more affordable version of the headset for regular consumers.
Many netizens did not hold back and focused their comments on the device's price and how it was too expensive for a lot of buyers. Unlike iPhones, it remains hard to see how the Apple Vision Pro headset would be integrated with the users' everyday lives.
