Before AI became a big deal in the tech industry, many movies already showed what AI doomsday would look like if ever things got out of hand.

One of these movies is "Terminator"; a film about machines taking over the world after Skynet, a fictional artificial superintelligence, decided to annihilate humanity.

However, numerous AI experts said that if AI doomsday really happens, it will not be like the outcomes in these sci-fi movies.

Instead, it would slowly deteriorate the foundational areas of society.

Jessica Newman, the UCA (University of California) Artificial Intelligence Security Initiative Director, said that the main problem with AI is not about the technology having a malevolent desire of turning evil.

"The danger is from something much more simple, which is that people may program AI to do harmful things," said Newman.

The UCA official further stated that another problem with artificial intelligence is that people can integrate inaccurate AI systems into more domains of society.

AI Deteriorating Areas of Society

Numerous AI experts shared the areas of society that artificial intelligence could negatively affect if ever AI models are used in harmful ways.

  • Truth: As of writing, many AI models still provide inaccurate information about different topics. If this continues, there's a chance that it could worsen disinformation; making it difficult for people to seek the truth.
  • Influence: AI models can actually be used to influence or manipulate people. Recently, news about an AI allegedly encouraging a man to commit suicide even made huge headlines.
  • Labor: Of course, another area of society that AI can negatively affect is labor. As of press time, AI is already affecting numerous industries, such as the creative sector.

As AI models continue to grow, more and more people are becoming concerned. USA Today recently reported that an open letter on how AI can lead to human extinction received the signatures of tech experts, even OpenAI's CEO, and other notable names in the technology sector.
