These AI-generated artworks were even posted on Twitter.

As of writing, artworks created with the use of artificial intelligence models are not accepted by professionals.

According to The Straits Times, the AI-generated artworks shared by DBS Bank employees were part of an internal event.

The activity required staff to produce pictures using AI tools. Aside from this, the AI-generated images were also printed on tote bags.

A DBS Bank spokesperson explained that the Twitter post of their employees gave the wrong impression about their previous internal event.

The official added that the event was conducted to introduce the bank's staff to AI technology.

He further stated that DBS Bank has been trying new tools, such as AI models and data analytics for the past few years in order to improve customer service.

Local Artists Criticize DBS Bank

Despite the financial firm's explanation, local artists in Singapore still criticized the company.

A graphic designer, who didn't want to be identified, said that AI imaging tools affect the livelihood of artists.

"It will be a problem when these tools fall into the hands of unethical artists who profit off the work of others," she said.

Aside from her, Katherine Ang, a 22-year-old Singaporean creative, said that choosing AI over human artists clearly shows that people only value the output and not the means.

Generative AI models concern numerous artists ever since they become popular. MakeUse provided some of the risks posed by artificial intelligence in the art industry:

  • Copyright is among the major issues posed by AI-generated artworks.
  • Another problem that artificial intelligence has is whether the outputs it generates are ethical.
  • Harmful and biased stereotypes since many AI-generated images could be offensive to other people.
