The power of generative AI is evidently dominating the tech industry following the success that OpenAI reaped with ChatGPT. Now, Adobe wants to embrace the same technology with the new Generative Fill feature that's debuting to its flagship software Photoshop.
Adobe Photoshop is Getting AI-Powered Feature
Photoshop is one of the most popular photo-editing software that professionals use. It allows the user to enhance an image and tweak its elements to come up with a more desirable outcome.
According to Engadget, it will attract more users in the coming months of 2023 by the time the new Generative Fill feature arrives.
As Adobe promises, the AI-centered feature which is powered by Firefly will help the customers achieve quick but satisfying results within one's imagination, as per the company's senior VP of Digital Media Ashley Still.
If you know DALL-E 2, you can easily compare how Adobe's Generative Fill works. It's simply the equivalent of the former's outpainting and inpainting.
For instance, you can incorporate something to make your subject surreal in the background. That's how inpainting works. If you want to extend the coverage of an image, you can out-paint it.
Adobe Generative Fill Won't Replace Real Artists
Some people have grown alarmed with the widespread use of AI in fear that one day, it might replace them. Some companies have already started to teach AI ethics and methods to their employees to carry out tasks more efficiently than before.
If you're a graphic artist and you think that AI might interfere with your job someday, you don't have to worry about this.
As per Adobe's chief technology office for digital media Ely Greenfield, the tool won't replace the graphic artists, but instead help them create more innovative designs for their works.
Greenfield adds that the tool will exist to "dramatically accelerate" the normal production of an artist on a daily basis, per Rappler.

How Generative Fill Works on Adobe Photoshop
If you're wondering how the new Firefly-powered feature works on Photoshop, here's what you need to know.
Being a Firefly-powered feature means that you can safely use photos for commercial purposes. The quality of the images is guaranteed to be high-resolution and of course, they are licensed. Firefly will make sure that the IPs of brands will be respected and no image infringement will happen.
Aside from that, the upcoming generative AI tool will help you breeze through simple text prompts that can produce the most impressive results, per 9to5Mac.
Adobe also adds some improvements to Photoshop including the Enhanced Remove Tool, Enhanced Contextual Task Bar, Enhanced Gradients, and the new Adjustment Presets.
