'Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom' has taken the UK by storm, becoming the biggest boxed video game launch of the year, Gamesindustry.biz tells us in a report.
The opening week saw Tears of the Kingdom sell more copies than Hogwarts Legacy, which was released months earlier on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S and X.
Last week's No.1 game, 'Hogwarts Legacy,' saw a sharp decline in sales, dropping to No.2 with a 68% sales decrease week-on-week.
'Tears of the Kingdom' Shaping Up to be the Most Successful Zelda Game
With its impressive boxed sales figures already surpassing 2.7 times the opening week sales of the legendary 'Breath of the Wild' from 2017, 'Gamesindustry.biz reports that Tears of the Kingdom' has firmly established itself as the eighth-biggest Zelda game of all time in terms of sales. It has even outperformed the beloved Skyward Sword on Wii and The Wind Waker on GameCube.
The game's revenue is also something to marvel at, with it sitting behind only the fan-favorite 'Ocarina of Time,' the dark and mysterious 'Twilight Princess,' and, of course, the groundbreaking 'Breath of the Wild.'

While Tears of the Kingdom's opening week sales may have fallen 12% short of the previous year's 'Pokémon Scarlet and Violet' release, it more than made up for it by generating an impressive 8% more revenue than the game.
It is clear that Tears of the Kingdom has struck a chord with franchise fans with its captivating story, stunning graphics, and challenging gameplay.
What Makes 'Tears of the Kingdom' the Biggest Switch Release
One factor that could explain its success is the game's limited edition release, which came with a hefty price tag of over £100.
But despite the high price, Tears of the Kingdom has managed to soar to the top of the charts and become the biggest Switch release in terms of revenue.
Its success has even had a positive impact on the sales of its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, which saw a 31% increase in boxed sales week-on-week.
Players Amazed by Newest Zelda Title
Announced back in 2019, players have been eagerly waiting for this game for four long years. And now that it is here, they are finding it hard to believe that the game they have been dreaming about is finally in their hands.
VG247 reports that one already started a thread titled "Is anyone else having a moment where they cannot believe this game exists?" and many others quickly joined in with their own amazement.
The game has exceeded expectations, taking everything that made Breath of the Wild great and doubling down on it.
But that is not all - players have also been left in awe of the game's content. One user shared their surprise at being attacked by a tree, while another caught a shooting star mid-skydive. It's these unexpected moments that make the game even more thrilling and unpredictable.
