After 'Tears of Kingdom' Release, 'Legend of Zelda' Series Producer Hints at Possible Movie Adaptation

Nintendo also dropped some hints recently.

Fans of 'The Legend of Zelda' franchise may be delighted to know that a movie adaptation of the series is not off the table, according to series producer Eiji Aonuma.

During an interview with Polygon, the producer recently expressed interest in bringing the beloved video game to the big screen. Aonuma's comments come just hours after the release of "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom," the latest installment in the series.

'The Legend of Zelda' Movie Coming Soon

When asked about the potential for a movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, Aonuma stated that he is interested but emphasized that his interest alone is not enough to make it happen.

"It's not just me being interested in something that makes things happen, unfortunately," he said.

Hidemaro Fujibayashi, the director of Tears of the Kingdom, echoed Aonuma's sentiment by suggesting that the voice of the fans could be crucial in bringing a movie adaptation to fruition.

Nintendo Drops More Hints

NintendoEverything tells us that Nintendo has previously expressed interest in pursuing more movies in the future, with President Shuntaro Furukawa stating recently that the company plans to pursue a "variety of visual content" moving forward.

Given that 'The Legend of Zelda' is one of Nintendo's most popular franchises, a movie adaptation seems like a natural next step.

It is worth noting that 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie,' which marks Nintendo's first big jump into the movie business, has been a massive success.

Variety reports that the movie has already crossed the $1 billion mark and is domestically the second highest-grossing animated film. A movie adaptation of 'The Legend of Zelda' could potentially be just as successful, if not more so.

More from Aonuma and Fujibayashi

During the interview, Aonuma and Fujibayashi were also asked if there were any concepts or ideas that they did not get to explore fully in Tears of the Kingdom. W

While Fujibayashi hinted that he had a few ideas in mind, he refrained from sharing them to avoid spoiling any surprises for fans. Aonuma joked that he couldn't share any potential ideas as it would cause trouble for him.

Despite the lack of concrete information about a potential Legend of Zelda movie adaptation, fans of the franchise are already buzzing with excitement at the prospect.

Gamers have beloved the series for over three decades, and a movie adaptation could introduce the world of Hyrule to a whole new audience.

For now, fans will have to wait and see if Nintendo decides to move forward with a movie adaptation of 'The Legend of Zelda.'

However, the fact that the company has expressed interest in pursuing more visual content bodes well for the franchise's future.

In the meantime, fans can continue to enjoy 'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom' and speculate about what a potential movie adaptation might look like.
