The latest introduction to Porsche's automotive development is its collaboration with Mobileye, a company that is well known for delivering driver-assistive technology. In this collaboration, Porsche is eyeing to use the "SuperVision" technology that would bring drivers assistance on the road, in different conditions more than self-driving itself.
While this is not the first time that the Volkswagen Group has resorted to partner companies and services in assistive driving features, this is a significant feature for Porsche's development in the future of mobility.
Porsche, Mobileye Collaboration: 'SuperVision' ADAS is Coming Soon
According to the latest press release from Porsche, the luxury and performance car company is looking to integrate its vehicles with a known industry leader that specializes in assistive driving tech. The latest announcement teases its collaboration with Mobileye, an Intel-owned company, with its proprietary technology, the SuperVision.
Porsche said that it plans to introduce a new automated assistance feature and "navigate-on-pilot" functions based on the SuperVision for future vehicles, with the company yet to announce which models.
"We are combining an outstanding product with a highly personal experience. The desires and lifestyles of our customers are important to us. We want to exceed expectations again and again - and that's exactly what we're doing with world-class partners like Mobileye," said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche.
SuperVision ADAS for Porsche: What to Expect
The Israeli company, Mobileye, is looking forward to providing its SuperVision to Porsche, and this technology is better known as an ADAS, which stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System.
And while it is not exactly promising full autonomy, it is a significant addition to the vehicle by giving its safe and helpful driver features that would make the drive easier and more manageable, compared to manually operating the vehicle.
Mobileye was known to be Tesla's former ADAS developer before it introduced the Autopilot in 2016 which resulted in a massive case between the two.
Porsche's Automotive Developments
Like Volkswagen, Porsche is also a German car company that is now heavily invested in delivering clean energy cars for the world, and one of its most iconic releases is the Taycan EV. In its recent upgrade for the EV, Porsche debuted a new program that would help reduce EV battery charging times for the vehicle, to give more range with less waiting for its owners.
With Taycan being Porshce's headliner towards its electric mobility plans for the future, there are still more iconic vehicles that are seeing electric adoption in the company's lineup. There was a previous prototype from the German car company which transforms an iconic roadster of the company into an EV, with the Boxter 718 seeing electric motors instead of its Boxer-type engine.
As Porsche is expanding more into its electric vehicle developments, the company is also looking to integrate new driver-assistive technology into its vehicles that expands more of its cars' capabilities. This is through its new collaboration with Mobileye, particularly with the company's proprietary SuperVision that would soon be available on future Porsche cars.
