Apple Maps users have been waiting for some huge upgrades for a very long time. Fortunately, a new rumor claims that iOS 17 will bring exciting features to the navigation tool.
Apple Maps Upgrades We Could Potentially See Soon
Macrumors reports that a reliable leaker on Twitter named Analyst941 claims that the upcoming operating system will bring a "Live Activity" interface which likely carries the visual map on the app.
When your iPhone gets locked, the Apple Maps direction will consume the whole space of your device's screen. According to the tipster, by the time iOS 17 comes, it will only be limited to two-thirds of the display at the bottom.
The upper third part will feature the current time and data on your smartphone. At the same time, you can access the camera buttons and torch.
Seeing your notifications won't be a headache anymore, thanks to the simple task of swiping up from the lock screen's bottom area.
The Apple Maps feature "allegedly" reduces the size of the map to the same size that we see on the music player. If you click the activity, you can expand it once again.
With that being said, Apple Maps could possibly receive the same treatment as Apple Music, as 9to5Mac says in its report.
Can the Rumored Apple Maps Features Surpass Google Maps?
Without any doubt, Apple could be preparing to roll out the customizations for Apple Maps users during lock screen mode.
At the moment, Google Maps does not fare better than Apple Maps when it comes to iPhone lock screens.
If the rumors about the upgrades are true, Apple's navigation app will surpass Google's tool, and it will become a more accessible app for every iPhone user who wants to travel.
According to Analyst941, Apple Maps will have an upper hand over Google Maps when it comes to in-house integration.
Additionally, the leaker also says that more customizations will be left in the open for the upcoming app, including the ability to delete and duplicate custom wallpapers and even rearrange and share them.
Following this leak, another Weibo information notes that iOS 17 will also feature font size and lock screen customizations. If that's the case, we could assume that it will be shareable between Apple Watch users.
The iPhone lock screen changes look promising on paper. This could be one of the most awaited iOS 17 features for iPhones.
For quite a long time, Apple Maps has not received a significant upgrade. Maybe, this is now its time to shine and attract more users who want to test the waters with a revamped navigation tool.
At this point, we do not know the list of iPhones that can likely get this feature on iOS 17. It's up to Apple whether it wants to live up to its promise to the users by the time WWDC 2023 kicks off on June 5.
