BMW Issues 'Do Not Drive' Warning for 90,000 Older Cars

BMW has issued a "Do Not Drive" warning for nearly 90,000 of its older car models, which were manufactured between 2000 and 2006. The warning comes after the discovery of a defective airbag system that poses a serious safety risk to drivers and passengers.

The airbags in question were produced by Takata, a Japanese company that has been at the center of one of the largest recalls in automotive history. The Takata airbags have been linked to at least 24 deaths worldwide, with millions of vehicles from various manufacturers being recalled due to the defect, from the previous years it was under scrutiny.

BMW's warning specifically targets 2006 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi and 2004-2006 325Ci, 325Cic, 330Ci, 330Cic, and M3 models. These vehicles are at a higher risk of airbag ruptures, which can cause metal shrapnel to be sprayed into the passenger compartment upon deployment.

Takata Airbags Still the Cause of this Issue

Takata's airbags lack a desiccant that would keep them dry after years of experiencing heat and humidity, causing them to deploy even without facing an emergency.

BMW has advised all affected customers to park their vehicles and avoid driving them until the issue can be resolved. The company has assured customers that repairs will be carried out free of charge, and affected users may submit their Vehicle Identification Numbers to know more about what steps to take for their affected vehicle.

Defective Airbags are Dangerous

The BMW airbag recall is just one of many that has affected the auto industry in recent years.

The Takata airbag defect has been linked to several deaths and injuries worldwide and has led to the recall of millions of vehicles from various manufacturers.

In response to the crisis, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been working with automakers to ensure that all affected vehicles are repaired as quickly as possible.

BMW's serious warning to its customers regarding defective airbags in some of its older car models is not something you want to take lightly.

The Takata airbag system has been linked to numerous deaths and injuries worldwide, and BMW is taking the issue very seriously. Affected customers have been advised to park their vehicles and avoid driving them until repairs can be made, which will be done free of charge.
