BMW issued a recall and it was recently published on the NHTSA's website for further dissemination among drivers, focusing on 14,000 electric vehicles affected by its traction batteries. It calls upon owners of the i4 and i7 sedans from BMW's EV lineup, focusing on its battery management software that was said to have several problems.

It also includes the iX electric vehicle included in the list of vehicles that are part of this problem, for immediate updates from the company.

The company's solution is to issue a battery software update that would fix the issue regarding the traction batteries who may or may not experience this issue yet.

Initial BMW EV Problems Reported

According to Ars Technica, several BMW owners, particularly with a BMW China release, have that this issue causes power interruption for the EV. There are already ten reports last November in the United States regarding experiencing loss of power and was made known to the car owners via their dashboard signals.

The German car company believes that only one percent of its EVs' entire operations are affected by this problem.

BMW and its Electrification

BMW has a massive goal for 2023 and its efforts to electrify its fleet, with as much as 400,000 projected sales for this year as it grows its lineup to feature clean energy. The German automaker is still one of the most famous companies in the world to deliver its technology to the world, featuring known capabilities and reliabilities in the industry.

It also plans to develop the batteries which its cars use, and by 2025, the company aims to push for its round power cells for its EVs to use for its energy needs.

The company is yet to deliver new electric vehicles for its future in electrification, with massive plans in the future to also electrify the M-series sports performance lineup.

For now, BMW has to focus on fixing the problems its initial batch of EVs has stumbled upon, especially as it has massive ties to the car's mobility and performance. It is recommended for owners of the i4 and i7 electric vehicles immediately take their cars to their service centers for their much-needed battery software upgrade.
