A fresh leak about the 15-inch MacBook Air suggests that it will be coming with an M2 chip. The previous reports disputed that an M3 chip would power it, but the leaker says that it won't happen soon, per Macrumors.
Only 15-Inch MacBook Air Will Get M2 Chip
As yeux112 writes on the Korean Naver blog, Apple will have a different plan for the M2-powered MacBook Air. The leaker, who has a reliable track record, says that the Cupertino tech firm will have a separate plan for the other version.
More likely, we could see the upcoming MacBook Air this month. If it does not arrive soon, it will be announced by the time WWDC 2023 drops.
As the previous reports say, Apple stopped the production of the M2 processors in early 2023. The company adds that there's a plummeting Mac sales at that time.
Additionally, the temporary suspension has been pushed through February. That's the time when the operations for the M2 production were resumed. However, Apple did not manage to hit its target and it's only "half the level of the previous year," according to a source who is familiar with the issue.

Apple Has Abandoned M3 MacBook Air
9to5Mac has confirmed that Mark Gurman of Bloomberg tipped that Apple is currently focused on the M2 MacBook. At the same time, the iPhone maker is also developing the M3 version, which is scheduled to launch at a later date.
Now that we know that Apple has ditched the M3-powered MacBook in the meantime, we could assume that this will be a more powerful version than the 15-inch variant.
From the looks of it, Apple is certainly fixed on presenting the M2 model soon most buyers will definitely buy a few months from now.
Bracing for a more robust MacBook Air could be on the playbook of some fans but the downside is it might still take them time before they get this product.
In late 2022, Tech Times connected the dots in a report stating that Apple could release an iMac with M3 in 2023.
Another speculation points out M2 Silicon MacBook Pro is in the works and is set for a 2023 launch. The analyst hopes that it will be branded under the "M2 Extreme" moniker.
Until Apple has no official announcement whatsoever, it's safe to take this information with a grain of salt. While it's fine to assume that the details sound credible, it's quite early to make a second guess about what specs it will contain.
Coming up with a new chip will push Apple to spend its resources on this investment. It's good to hear that the company is thriving in developing its products to compete with other brands in the market.
