In the move towards electric mobility, Jaguar Land Rover has been slow in its adoption of the clean energy power found in the industry, but the company is now looking to bring EVs, with the Range Rover brand. This new development will center on a midsized SUV coming in less than two years, announcing its plans to transition to clean energy.
Alongside this Range Rover EV is the company's focus on developing electric cars on their brands, as well as self-driving technology with a whopping $18.7 billion budget for its development.
Range Rover is Going Electric, 2025 to Bring a Midsized SUV EV
2025 will see a new era for Range Rover, as its first electric vehicle outing will arrive with a midsized SUV featuring clean energy, the company announced today.
"Today I am proud to announce we are accelerating our electrification path, making one of our UK plants and our next-generation medium-size luxury SUV architecture fully electric. This investment enables us to deliver to our modern luxury electric future, developing new skills, and reaffirming our commitment to be carbon net zero by 2039," says Jaguar Land Rover CEO Adrian Mardell.
The luxury brand claimed that it has started its "Reimagine" campaign for the brand two years ago, centering on modern luxury options available in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. JLR will start developing the Range Rover EV by later this year.
Apart from the midsized SUV Range Rover EV coming in 2025, the company is also set to bring a Jaguar GT four-door modern luxury sedan to bring 700 miles of range.
Jaguar Land Rover is Allocating $18.7B for EV Development
The Verge also noted that JLR is looking to further developments of its EV project, and the company is putting as much as $18.7 billion to create electric cars in the future, as well as its autonomous driving tech.
Jaguar Land Rover's Switch to Electric
The world is already looking at extensive models and cars available in the electric vehicle market, as more manufacturers are transitioning to clean energy developments. However, there is one iconic company that went against the current that brought electric to the shores, and this is Jaguar Land Rover, who is only making a change now.
The company previously announced that it will bring autonomous driving cars to the United Kingdom by 2020, and this was the technology JLR has focused on in the past.
It was not until 2022 that the company announced its plans to convert its Halewood Plant in England to support its transition to clean energy, as other companies did earlier.
Jaguar Land Rover has held out for its love of internal combustion engines for a long time, being a renowned name in the industry for their performance and capabilities. However, times are changing and the world asks for a more sustainable drive, one that can only be achieved with EVs, and the company is pitting its Range Rover for this change.
