Mario Games Dominate Game Charts in the United Kingdom

Gamesindustry.biz notes that several Mario games have risen to the top of the GfK UK Boxed Top Ten for the week ending April 15. "Super Mario 8 Deluxe" is currently in second place, while "Super Mario Odyssey" and "New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe" is in fifth and tenth place, respectively.

Sales of all three games have increased, with "Mario Kart 8: Deluxe" seeing a 9% increase, "Super Mario Odyssey" seeing a 15% increase, and "New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe" seeing a 23% increase week on week.

Even though other Mario games did not make the top ten, their sales increased significantly. Sales increased for "Super Mario 3D World + Bower's Fury," "Mario Party Superstars," and "Luigi's Mansion 3," with the biggest increase going to "Mario Strikers: Battle League Football," which saw an incredible 111 percent increase in sales and re-entered the charts at number 30.

The success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie may have influenced increased sales of these classic Mario games. Nintendo's racer, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, has been a consistent performer on the charts for a long time. On the other hand, the success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie appears to have given new life to other classic Mario games.

'Super Mario Bros. Movie; Wows Critics

Critics praised the Super Mario Bros. Movie for its lighthearted tone and entertaining Mario character. The popularity of the Mario character, who has a devoted fan base, may have contributed to the film's box office success.

The film grossed $260.3 million in North America and $248.4 million worldwide, bringing its total to $508.7 million.

It surpasses the $212.8 million earned by "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" to become the highest-grossing film of 2023 thus far. To keep up with this record, Mario will have to beat out surefire hits like "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and "Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1."

It will be interesting to see if the success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie drives sales of more classic Mario games in the coming weeks. The Mario character's popularity appears evergreen and does not appear to wane anytime soon.
