Amazon to Charge Users a Fee for Returns via UPS, But Why?

You want to return it, sure, but there's a charge.

Amazon is setting up new conditions for returning items to the company, and it will begin charging its customers a certain fee for every package they return via UPS. There will still be many free options for the company's returns but will definitely charge customers for certain ones, the e-commerce company confirmed earlier.

The latest charge centers on a different courier option, or opting for the more premium return experience, instead of the usual drop-offs that would not charge any fees to a customer.

CNET reports that in an e-mail statement from the company, it is now confirming that Amazon will charge customers who choose UPS' services whenever returning an item. This centers on as much as a $1 fee per package return via the platform, especially for those who opt for UPS when there is a closer dropoff to their location.

Still, this does not necessarily mean that Amazon is restricting returns from buyers, especially as their policy states that users have a 90-day period where they can return items provided that they have its official receipt.

However, some items will indicate that they are not eligible for returns right at their listing, or those that have been tampered with already.

What Charge-Free Options are Available via Amazon?

Amazon still allows free returns, including label-free and box-free options that customers may bring back without any additional costs. Additionally, Amazon accepts returns to the company via its physical retail stores like Whole Foods, Kohl's, and Amazon Fresh stores nationwide.

It is important to note that this charged return will center on UPS couriers, particularly if there are closer and free options available to the buyer.

Amazon and its e-Commerce Platform

The company from Jeff Bezos is still one of the most famous and renowned e-commerce platforms in the world, bringing significant accessibility as a one-stop-shop for most needs. One of the best experiences with Amazon is the many discounts and promotions available on the platform with the likes of Apple, Samsung, LG, and more offering their innovations to the public.

Amazon's e-commerce brings many products to the public, from many manufacturers and companies looking to sell what they offer to the world. However, since it wants to center on quality and control, the company recently flagged down frequently returned items that they would review, one that they may take off the market to avoid further returns other customers may do.

With Amazon looking to streamline more of what it offers for all and avoid the back-and-forth sale of the item, it is now looking for more ways in alleviating its losses.

Amazon is now issuing a fee for all customers who wish to return their items via UPS, especially if there is a closer return option for users that will be free of charge, soon to ask users for $1 or more for returning packages.
