Remembering Bob Lee

Bob Lee is known for creating the mobile payment service Cash App. But aside from being a Technology Executive, he was also a son, a friend, and a legacy to the industry.

Bloomberg interviewed Block Inc. Co-Founder Jim McKelvey and when he thinks of Lee, two memories always pop up in his mind: the day he recruited him to work at Square during his wedding in St Louis, and his competence through coding.

"Jack, who is not prone to hyperbole, said Bob Lee was the best Java programmer in the world. He had a stellar technical reputation, and he had an enthusiasm and confidence that was infectious," McKelvey added.

Max Rhodes, who also worked with Lee at Square, also shared his memory with Lee and said that almost everybody worshipped him as he could solve any problems that other people could not resolve, which is why all the best engineers wanted to work with him. He acknowledged his days working with Lee as he thinks he would not be here today without him.

Lee as a Son and Brother

In a Facebook Post, father Rick Lee wrote that he did not only lost his son but also his best friend. This incident comes after his wife (Lee's mother) died in 2019. The father stated that "Bobby" worked hard than anyone and will be missed by all of those who knew him. He thanks everyone who reached out in support through these trying times.

He noted, "Life has been an adventure with two bachelors living together, and I'm so happy that we were able to become so close these last years." NBC News reported that the two had been living in Miami since October after having moved there from California.

Meanwhile, Tim Oliver Lee also remembered his brother as he was saddened and disheartened by this loss. "He really was the best of us. I was so fortunate to grow up with him, and I feel like I've lost part of myself," he added.

The Cash App founder was fatally stabbed in the Rincon Hill neighborhood in San Francisco on Tuesday at about 2:35 AM. After the San Francisco Police Department responded to the call, he was not identified by the authorities until his father and brother announced his passing.

Associated Press reported that his death enflamed conversations about public safety in San Francisco and its moribund downtown. Aside from this, the Bay Area also suffers from poverty crime more than violent crime, including murder, rape, robbery, and assault.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed described this homicide as a "horrible tragedy" and stated that the city will prioritize public safety. She said that the district attorney will do what is necessary to hold anyone accountable for their actions.
