Google Photos Adds Video Editing Tools to Chromebook, ChromeOS Users

You may now edit videos on Google Photos.

Google Photos for Chromebook and ChromeOS users just got better. Its latest update introduces all-new video editing tools besides the photo editing options.

On top of that, the renowned tech giant has also started rolling out a new movie editor on Google Photos from ChromeOS.

Google Photos Adds Video Editing Tools, Movie Editor

Although the name suggests that the app only supports images, Google Photos has begun expanding to videos as well.

It has been the trend these days, following the popularity of TikTok, which took the world by storm. Instagram is now heavily focused on video clips as well, apart from its being a photo-sharing service.

According to a report by Tech Crunch, Google announced last July 2022 that it is planning to add new video editing features, as well as a movie editor, to its photo sharing and storage platform.

However, the tech behemoth notes that it only plans to roll out these video features to Chromebook users. So it is unclear if the giant firm is also planning to release them on other platforms like Android, Windows, or iOS for iPhone users.

After a couple of months, Google sticks to its word. The video editing features on Photos for Chromebook are now rolling out to its users.

The tech giant has announced the addition of video editing tools, saying that these video features are "starting to roll out" to Google Photos from Chromebook users.

New Video Editing Tools on Google Photos from Chromebooks

In its announcement, Google explains what these new video editing features bring to the table. It notes that these new additions should let users "seamlessly use images and videos" using the Google Photos app on their Chromebooks.

Android Central notes in its report that the new update brings a great deal of video editing tools.

The options are quite similar to the photo editing counterpart. It essentially lets users tweak the brightness and contrast of the clip. On top of that, it also includes adjustments for "White point," "Shadows," and "Highlights," which should help improve the overall quality of the video.

Built-in Movie Editor is Now Rolling Out

Meanwhile, according to a report by Android Authority, the latest update also offers a movie editor. And unlike most options out there, this one is pretty easy to use.

Users no longer have to study all the options to create a long-form video. Instead, they would only need to select clips and images they like to include. And from there, they could choose a theme for the video.

And that's it. Google Photos will start creating a "movie" for you. Sad to say, it remains to be seen if these options are rolling out to Android or iOS users. For now, it is available on Chromebooks.
