Apple Employees Express Skepticism on Launching Its Mixed-Reality Headset

Employees' uncertainty and skepticism might come from several departures from the company.

Workers from Apple were having doubts about the anticipated mixed-reality headset that will launch months from now. According to some, this device is still not ready to launch while others exited the project because of their concerns and skepticism.

Questioning the Mixed-Reality Headset

Anonymous employees at Apple expressed their doubts about the upcoming headset of the company. Based on a report from 9To5Mac, the company failed to rally all of its employees behind as some of them already left or failed to continue with the production due to its quality at a high price point of $3,000.

While the unveiling is getting close, the company did or did not confirm whether the headset will be announced yet as they focused on the baby first. Regardless of this, it is expected to reveal the headset at the Worldwide Developer Conference this upcoming June.

Compared to previous devices, the mixed-reality headset is not so much impactful as iPod's ability to put digital songs in people's small pockets and the integration of iPhones and iPods into one. Aside from this factor, the headset has not been driven by the same clarity.

The Verge reported that the potential reason for the employees' uncertainty and skepticism might come from several departures from the product design team, including Jony Ive in 2019, Evans Hankey in 2022, Mike Rockwell, and more.

Employees were also shocked that Apple might still continue the launch and rather not postpone it. Postponement for the launching seems like this will not happen, however, a June launch is still in the go.

Apple's Mixed Reality Headset

As per rumors, the product will be branded as Apple Reality Pro with a $4,000 gift check. New York Times reported that the mixed-reality headset features a lot of things like enabling augmented reality video conferencing and meetings.

This device is also believed to edit in a creative tool where they can edit images and videos in a 3D space. Lastly, you can watch TV cinema at Apple partnering with Hollywood creators. Apple is expecting this to sell one million units in its year, as it is expected to be so appealing to businesses than the general public.

Apple's Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook stated, "You'll wonder how you lived your life without augmented reality, just like today you wonder: How did people like me grow up without the internet?"

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman stated that while all of these digits are unimaginable, he believed that Apple is working on a more affordable version of the headset as soon be next year.

Several tech platforms have also joined the movement to build a virtual reality business, including Meta's Facebook. Since 2020, the platform sold 20 million of its $400 Quest 2. Those are all affordable due to some of them being defective.
