"Mabuhay" is a famous exclamation from the Philippines meaning "long live," and it gives significant meaning to the Filipino's national dish, Adobo, which was recently featured as a Google Doodle earlier today. The latest entry to the internet company's homepage in the search engine celebrates the induction of this savory dish in the Oxford English Dictionary 16 years ago.
Google Doodle Features the Filipino Adobo on its Homepage
Google claims that Filipino Adobo is worthy to be featured on its homepage, as it brings a juicy, tender, flavorful, and soulful experience with every bite of this amazing dish. This salty, sour, sometimes sweet, but at all times, garlicky is the National Dish of the Philippines it grew in popularity over the years.
The artwork was made by Google's Doodle Artist Anthony Irwin, a half-Filipino, featuring the many elements of the favorite dish including chicken, garlic, bay leaves, soy sauce, and black peppers.
"I ordered some southern-style chicken adobo from a local restaurant to stir up some memories while working on the art for this Doodle, and the first thing that hit me was the smell. It was so bright and nostalgic, and instantly filled my apartment with that familiar feeling: this is exactly how things are supposed to be. So I tried to capture that simple childhood joy of leaning in and savoring the kind of food that makes home feel like home. Kain nang mabuti!," said Irwin.
Oxford Dictionary Adds 'Adobo' to its List of Words
Google commemorates the Adobo on this day, March 15, in celebration of its induction to the Oxford English Dictionary 16 years ago, in 2007. It is a significant time for the Filipino dish to be part of one of the world's largest dictionaries, as a noun that captures everything about the Philippines and its exquisite cuisine.
Google Doodles in the Past
Apart from the many technological, astronomical, and other features in the world of Google Doodle, the team also looked into the culture, art, food, and more to bring to its spotlight. The internet company is also a fan of Thanksgiving with its adorable art featuring turkeys, making up the famous Google letters that previously appeared on its front page.
Google also took this opportunity to announce its commitment to preserving the environment last Earth Day 2021, with its Doodle tackling the importance of trees. It also signified the company's move to carbon neutrality, with five data centers to go zero emissions by 2030.
