As part of Honda's EV transition, the Japanese automaker will move its Accord sedan production to Indiana.
For the past 40 years, its hybrid sedan has been manufactured in its factory in Marysville, Ohio. But, since Honda wants to join other carmakers transitioning to electric vehicle production, it needs to make adjustments of its own.
Once its Accord sedan production officially moves to Indiana, Honda's Marysville factory would be its first U.S.-based auto plant to be used to produce EVs.
Honda's Accord Production Will be Moved to Indiana!
According to Reuters' latest report, Honda Motor Co's U.S. unit announced that its Accord sedan production will be transferred to Indiana as early as 2025.
In 2022, the Japanese automaker already hinted at its plans to transition the Marysville plant to EV production. Honda announced that it will separately invest $700 million to transition three Ohio factories to EV-making by 2026.
Now, Honda will start with its Marysville manufacturing plant. The automaker said that the EV transition preparation will start as early as January 2024.
During this phase, Honda's Marysville plant will consolidate two production lines into one, allowing it to begin constructing the EV infrastructure.
Honda-LG Partnership
Before its Accord sedan Indiana transition was announced, Honda Motor Co's U.S. confirmed that it partnered with South Korea's LG Energy Solution Ltd.
Automotive World reported that this collaboration will lead to a new joint venture EV battery plant in Fayette County; near Jeffersonville, Ohio.
In their joint venture, Honda and LG said that they will invest over $3 billion; with an overall investment of around $4 billion.
This new EV factory is expected to be completed as early as 2024. Once it becomes fully operational, the EV plant can create 2,200 jobs.
